I was just wondering exactly what transpired...

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=260140152

Quote :
"RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- In a season of uncanny balance, No. 18 North Carolina State might have reached the zenith Saturday.

Six players in double figures, with none taking more than 10 shots or less than seven. Four players with at least four rebounds. Four with a minimum of three assists.

"That's just kind of how this team has taken shape," Wolfpack coach Herb Sendek said. "I don't know if you're going to have that many guys night in and night out, but we certainly had terrific balance. Just a good team win."

Cameron Bennerman had 16 points and four of his teammates added 14 to help N.C. State pull away for an 87-78 victory over Georgia Tech that gave the Wolfpack their best start since the Jim Valvano era.

Engin Atsur, Tony Bethel, Cedric Simmons and reserve Andrew Brackman all came up two points shy of Bennerman's total, and Ilian Evtimov finished with 13 points for N.C. State (14-2, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). Of course, that's nothing new for one of the most balanced teams in the country, which has seven players averaging eight points or more.

"This was just one of those games where we had to do whatever it was," Bennerman said. "We just kept finding each other. I think the one thing that we do have consistently is unselfishness on the offensive end."

The Wolfpack last won 14 of their first 16 games in 1988-89, when Valvano led them to East Regional semifinals. To match that run, this year's team dominated down the stretch to beat the Yellow Jackets (9-5, 2-1) for the seventh straight time.

It gave the largest crowd of the season at the RBC Center (19,286) plenty to cheer about, and a loss just down the road by No. 20 North Carolina brought even more applause when it was announced.

"I thought our crowd was terrific," Sendek said. "I thought that really gave us a shot in the arm down the home stretch."

Jeremis Smith had 20 points for Georgia Tech, which had a four-game winning streak snapped.

Coach Paul Hewitt had an interesting final minute, exchanging heated words with the students seated behind his team's bench. They spent most of the game picking on Theodis Tarver, who was declared academically ineligible earlier this week before winning reinstatement on appeal Friday.

"I reacted poorly," Hewitt said. "Theo's been going through a tough time, and I thought there were some things said that didn't need to be said. But I reacted poorly, and I apologize for my behavior out there."

A 3-pointer from Lewis Clinch gave the Yellow Jackets their final lead at 61-60 with about 8 minutes left. Simmons responded on the other end with a dunk off a nice assist from Bethel to put N.C. State ahead for good. Astur and Bethel added 3s in quick succession to make it 68-61, and Georgia Tech could get only as close as six points the rest of the way.

The 6-foot-9 Simmons fought foul trouble in the first half -- he picked up his second with about 7 minutes left -- and played only 11 minutes. His absence allowed the Yellow Jackets to shred the ACC's best defense.

"It was very frustrating," Simmons said. "I feel like I could have made a difference, but I had to sit out."

The Wolfpack came in allowing opponents to shoot only 37 percent but watched Georgia Tech stay near double that mark for most of the first half. The Yellow Jackets finished at 68 percent to lead 41-40, all without much help from leading scorer Anthony Morrow.

He made his only shot and had three points before finally getting some open looks in the second half to finish with 15 points.

"We knew the plays that were coming, but it was all about us," Bennerman said. "I don't know if we took it for granted or what. It was just one of those games."

The Wolfpack appeared to take control soon after halftime with a 13-2 run capped by Evtimov's layup on an assist from Atsur. Just as quickly, Georgia Tech stormed back to regain the lead with 11 straight points, including 3-pointers from Morrow and Zam Frederick.

From there, there were four more lead changes and another tie before N.C. State began to pull away.

Clinch matched a season high with 14 points for the Yellow Jackets, and Ra'Sean Dickey scored 12.

"We fell into the trap of playing their game," Smith said. "The crowd was crazy and they're difficult to play against. They're just a really good team.""

the cheer sheets are blank on the bank. All it takes is a pen or a marker and then you have a sign

this has already been completely covered in two other threads but I'll say it one more time. hewitt had some built up frustration from the whole game and we were just getting onto tarver the whole time. out of the last timeout in the final minute I said, "hey paul, does tarver understand your little drawings?" he turned around and started yelling, "Hey, FUCK YOU!....." It wasn't necessarily that comment, but it was just that moment that caused him to snap. He appoligized and it's over with now.

I agree that the students did nothing wrong on Saturday towards Tarver. There was absolutely no way that that our students knew anything about his personal situation and why he missed class. Hewit should have explained it the day before the game and most of the students (not all) would have layed off the guy if it was that serious, but alas, Tech kept it quiet, so therefore the students are not at fault in any way.

Wait until they play in Cameron or the comcast center, Hewit will think we were angels. A few years back, when Loren Woods, who played at Wake, was playing in Cameron, he had some personal issue that the students caught wind of, and Coach K was told by Loren's mother that it would be appreciated if the students made no reference to it. Coach K got on the PA before the game and said Woods was off limits, and they complied.

about the cheer sheet; it was the alphabet except the letters D U M B were left out and put at the end. The fans behiend the GT bench kept riding the dumb guy hard and then at the end of the game the coach was telling them a play to use and they all started saying that wont work coach and the coach turned to them and said "why dont you shut the fuck up!"

^^^wait, are you saying that the students wouldn't have known about him having academic problems?

it was on the cheer sheets that he was declared inelligible and to heckle him about it.
