Hey everyone! I'm looking for a 3 bedroom apartment that's very cheap but hopefully with decent management and safety. I'm looking at Apartments at Westgrove, Gorman Crossing, Kensington Park, Mission Valley, and Parkwood Village. Do y'all have any advice about these places or other ones? Thanks! 1/15/2006 9:21:05 PM |

BTW, what's very cheap?
I'm in more north raleigh where three bedrooms are about the same price as some places near campus, you trade a commute for a nicer community/apartment. 1/15/2006 11:42:34 PM |

Westgrove is really nice, probably the best of those you listed. 1/16/2006 12:12:34 AM |

I've seen the interiors of Westgrove, Gorman Crossing, and Kensington Park. Of those three I would rank them in that order in terms of niceness, but everyone has different values when looking for apartments and I can't say much about the safety or management for any of them. 1/16/2006 12:37:53 AM |

lived in kensington for two years. lived in the ones closer to gorman street in the 2bed/2bath w/ extra room... from what i could tell, that side was a little bit nicer than the yellow looking ones... not much tho. they did come in and paint the old woodgrain when we asked and they did let us wall paper the kitchen (no more avocado green... woot!). never saw a single roach, mouse, etc... but then again we were neat freaks and never left food out. but i have to say the apts were shitty and old. but they were cheap and huge. and on the wolfline. we never had problems with management but then again we only saw them to pay rent. i'd probably look elsewhere first but they can be "ok" if you work with them on painting/repairs/whatnot, decorate it ok, and don't live like a pig.
then i moved to summit and then to lexington farms... both were far nicer but they have no 3bedrooms so they won't work for ya.

That site has been helpful as I have been looking for apartments in Boston. I didn't look much at the Raleigh apartments, but good luck in your search. 1/16/2006 10:51:05 AM |

Just look in Classifieds to see a bunch of places listed
Avery Close has been really good to me, and we have 3 people living at my place. However, one of them lives in the living room, so I don't know if you'd be down for that

i am absolutley thrilled with apts @ westgrove, but after living at the college inn for a year, i'd be grateful for a ratty blanket and a gutter to live in. so i'm a little biased ...seriously, here at westgrove i haven't had a single experience with the maintenance/management that didn't leave me going "wow, i love it when people are good at their jobs!" (warning: if you make an asshole out of yourself or don't pay rent, you may not be able to claim my pleasant experience as your own)
safety...i dunno, there are some sketch people like everywhere else, but there are families and nice old people, too, so i don't recommend it if you plan to have wild parties or have a vehicle with a sound system that has been known to raise the dead. or if you normally just litter the entire path to your place with rotting produce/eggs/roadkill. (the bias, sorry) ...compared to the many many times i had to call the police at the college inn, and the thousands of other times they were called by someone else, i've had ZERO problems here. so i feel pretty damned safe. *knock on wood*
those/these are the only two apt experiences i've had...wish i knew what to tell you about the others on your list. good luck!

Whatever you do, do NOT live in Kensington Park. Their management is absolutely horrible in every aspect. They are rude to you if you ask them any questions or give them a maintenance request, they aren't very organized so chances are when you do put in a maintenance request you'll have to repeat that request multiple times over a period of about a month before they actually do anything about it, they will write you up for absolutely anything (including boxes on your front porch on the day that you move in - I'm not kidding, they really did write us up for that). Our apartment was an absolute piece of shit and everything in it had a problem at least once. Just do yourself a favor and don't live there. 1/16/2006 4:21:11 PM |

i'd recommend sumter square, off of jones franklin.
its the cheapest place you'll find (our 3 bedroom is 675/mo), and the management is great.. 1/17/2006 1:07:56 AM |

Heres a 3 bedroom for sumter square. I live in one of their town houses, but several of my fraternity brothers have the 3 bed rooms and enjoy it.
"decent management and safety"
Its right on the cary edge of raleigh (which was rated one of the safest cities around), between crossroads and western. And the management has always been nice. I was considering posting about sumter square earlier, but I didn't know the 3 bedroom price range.
Heres the official site http://www.sumtersquareapartments.com/photos.asp

Go to the Sumter Square website listed under the map and floorplan in this thread (^^^^). Obviously you have the internet because you are posting stuff on TWW, so use it to your advantage. The website will list everything you need to know about the complex. 1/17/2006 12:41:33 PM |

parkhooooooooood! that was my first apt ever ... i loved it, but those are shitty, and they dont allow pets. so are the ones at kensington park and gorman crossing.
if you dont need to be on the wolfline, check out hunters glen apartments. 1/17/2006 12:43:50 PM |

I lived in the yellow area of Kensington Park. I liked it, but the walls were way too thin. This was 99-2000 though, so I'm sure it has changed some. 1/17/2006 12:52:48 PM |

^^^Oh...sorry about that. They used to list their prices right there. I live in the 2BR townhouse and I pay $625 a month. I don't know if that helps. I love it here. The management is awesome and it takes 10 min. tops to get to campus.

i'd seriously consider living there if i had a car, and didn't already have a place to stay. one of our friends stays there, and it is spectacular.

As discriminitory as it sounds... the one apartment they showed us in Sumter Square smelled of curry. Other than that, the place was run down and definately a lot worse than most of the other apartments we looked at. Coming from UH probably set high standards for me though. 1/17/2006 2:58:52 PM |

I live at Westgrove-- -The CD player was stolen from my car one night. Both doors had been locked. No other damage to the car though. -The people in the office who are part time don't really know whats going on and therefore will give you bad information. The regular manager lady is great though.
My 2 cents. 1/23/2006 5:54:58 PM |
