The acer has a bigger screen, hard drive, and more ram, and is cheaper.

I know which one I would buy out of those two.

had a dell, and in 2 months i replaced screen, power adapter and wireless card. build quality=ZERO. never again, althogh i must say their specs are better than other manufacturers in the comparable price range. i guess thats the trade off.

i think ill bite the bullet and get acer.

while I would agree that dell has been trash in the past, their newest lines are pretty decent, especially the 700m and all those other ones with that white trim on the casing. gotta keep in mind dell doesn't build or design all of their laptops, all these "manufacturers" buy the boards from a select few companies and then just put their cases around them.

dell had some $500-ish inspiron model with a widescreen that I got to check out briefly, and the impression I got was that it was a stout little machine, build-wise.

I forget the exact model, but it had a mobile celeron, 40 gig, 256 megs of ram, and DVD writer.

not exactly a powerhouse, but I was pretty amazed at what 500 bucks could get you these days.
