Ok. Quite honestly, being a mod just sucks outright. When I please one person, I displease another person. And when I displease someone, I please another. So I am left with this quandry of what to do.

So, this is your chance to affect how I moderate. If you have constructive criticism, then please post it with examples. If you don't have constructive criticism, then please don't post.

Examples:
1) When I lock a thread, point you to the segment in the site rules to explain why I locked it. Remmber, this is a judgement call.
2) I can keep a 'CarZin suspended user list' which indicates the warning the date, the second offense date, the suspension length.
3) I won't suspend at all. Everyone can pretty much run around, do what they want, and I'll just remove threads as I see fit. It will pretty much be Chit Chat surrounded by sports talk. I've never wanted that, but apparently some of you do.

Like it or not, Sports Talk is different from Chit Chat. There are rarely any rules imposed in Chat Chat, because it is generally a ruleless forum. However, pretty much all the other forums have a specific purpose, and so they all have morphed to have some special rules.

So, this is your opportunity.

Please dont implement #3, I do get tired of the "Official Game threads" turning into some macho display of who's the most knowitall sports "guru"

If they want their own threads for that, that is fine with me. But don't turn real sports talk into a "I know more about sports than you do" arguement.

#1 and #2 sound like good ideas if it's not too much trouble. Also is there a way to merge threads? If you see a multiple threads on the same subject can you just merge them into one thread??

Make a thread and keep your #2 list there... That way there won't be tons of threads popping up saying 'OMG WHY WAS XYZ SUSPENDED? FUCK CARZIN'

there is no way. Several things, like stickies, would make my life easier, and users more compliant. But Jake hasnt put these into place.

In my defense the dude trolls me regularly for no apparent reason in every section. I didn't ask for those stupid threads to be made about some 'contest' because I really don't care.

I think CarZin does a fine job personally. I don't want to read shit like 'Pizza on a Bagel' in this section. If I wanted to do that I'd click my mouse twice and go to Chit Chat.

BTW, I know none of you want this to turn into anything like statefans.com. Neither do I. There is a happy medium, however, between the two.

Actually, I think I am going to start moving some of the silly sports threads like "Wow" - "Did you just see that dunk" into Chit Chat. That way you can continue to talk about it, but not clutter up sports talk with something that should be in the game thread.

1. Suspend users for items other than pissing you off. My beef with you is that you appear to only suspend users when they get under your skin, not when they consistently break "rules."

2. Get help. I believe every section of this message board needs more than one active mod. None of you are on all the time. This leads to anarchy when they aren't online and dictatorship when they are. With more mods i believe this would go away. If the right people are chosen to fill the positions then the inconsistencies between moderation styles will be negligible.

I'll add more if I think of any.

I don't care if there are seperate threads about it. I'm just tired of the real sports conversation threads turning into a pissing contest.

Well, 'fucking with a mod' is a rule. And its one of those things it is hard for me to look past. If you are damned and determined at pissing me off, then you shouldnt be surprised when it happens. Creating threads about me is breaking at least 2 rules, and possibly more.

For example, jayBee posted a thread about wanted to be sports mod. I deleted it. I sent him a warning saying "If you want to waste your time on this, feel free to post it in Feedback, not sports talk". Several hours later, a second thread emerges. I sent him a second warning. I deleted the thread. Then a few hours later, the THIRD thread. And so I finally suspend. And then everyone gets pissy.

the "trolling" is all in fun, jackass. "OMG, I am the victim."

Whatever.

No, the Pizza on a Bagel thread was worthless.

keep things as you have them.

I have to admit though, the people like john kruk are starting to piss me off, making these threads that support the teams opposite of who local teams are playing. Hell, he doesnt have to be a local fan, but being a Duke fan, then a Bears fan, then a UNC fan is fucking retarded.

You should have eliminated him when you had the chance.

agreed

you will probably suspend me for this, but you are half the reason i avoid sports talk (the pissing contests are the other half), stop being such a douchebag and don't get your panties in a wad when i call you a douchebag and it's true

As stated, I can normally take the name calling. But dont create a thread about it. There are multiple examples of me being called much more than a douche, and not suspending. But as soon as you create a thread about it, then it goes to the next level. I could show you a pretty nice sized inbox of shit comments, and I dont suspend for that.

This is a good idea. My only beef with the way sports talk is moderated is the duplicate threads, and the threads nobody wants to read about. There have been a lot of threads lately that are just cluttering sports talk.

I dont have a problem with people not being suspended for stupid shit, but when there is obvious trolling, and nobody wants that user to share his or her ideas anymore, then suspension could be considered. I know its not chit chat, but its still fun to jar back and forth to a certian extent. Some people just take it too far. Example...the death threats I received for agreeing with Packbacker...of all users....of course that dude was suspended.

I just think most of the problems can be taken care of by deleting the threads that get out of hand or that shouldnt be created in the first place.

Thats not really true. I use the 'move thread to trashbin' more often than not. sometimes i will lock threads, but i move quite a bit out before anyone sees it. But its hard for me to suspend people for those type of infractions.

In this instance, yes. I wasn't elected moderator. I was assigned the task. Its not an elected position. If people have a problem with it, the appropriate place is feedback. Its simply not the right place. I wasnt telling him not to post it, just not to do it in sports talk.

Well, unfortunately, the best way of making the case for me to ask CrazyJ to appoint a comoderator is not by you being the type of person who asks for a suspension. Its kinda hard to be a moderator, and suspend people, when you couldnt even follow the rules yourself. If I chose a comoderator, it will be someone that hasnt been suspended, or done everything they can to piss me off.

maybe it's time to admit you are not the best at this and realize that is why Jaybee caused trouble to begin with

and you are the one who suspended him right? mostly because of your ego?

and what do you mean by "if i choose a comoderator"....is it really your choice? does tww belong to you?

oh and you double posted...SUSPEND!

I think I'm just fine at this. I am coming to you for suggestions. And although it is not solely my choice to ask for a co-moderator, it would probably happen if I ask. Problem is that no one likes a moderator. I dont think I know of a board that exists where people don't bitch about the moderator. The only problem with tww is how 1 person out of 1000 can create a big stink.

i think you should be able to make a thread for whoever you pull for. this is an "ncsu students" website not a "ncsu fan and local sports fan" website.

I dont think there should ever be more than one thread dedicated to a non-ncsu non-local team b/c those people ARE in the minority and should be able to keep it in one thread, but I do support the right to make other team based threads. Like Stingers Duke fans threads, i have no problem with that. Or my and other peoples 'Skins superbowl and other threads like that.

i think this is going a little too far. this is still sports talk and the game threads usually move to fast to ever carry on a discussion about one thing. for example, a "cam dunks on shelden" thread could be useful in case anyone ever finds video or pic that they want to post.
i suppose i consider this a grey area. the game threads are just so convoluted that i rarely use them.

not suspending people who make wagers with their ability to post in sports talk

another thing i think you have a problem with is you are sometimes very sporadic in that there will be one day where it is highly, tightly moderated and the next there is no moderation. i understand that everyone has a schedule to work around but this job might be more appropriate for some loser w/ nothing better to do than mod sports talk.

btw i think you get points for making this thread.

not that you care what i think.

Well, I am considering the dual moderation more than I have in the past. I do spend a lot of time away from the computer (normally more away time when I'm not at work . That leaves a lot of time for the users to run wild. We'll see.

I liked his idea to start with, but you're right to some extent. I just hate seeing 5 or 6 threads on one game that could easily be kept to 2. There should be one game thread and maybe one "sideshow" thread for the big games...especially football. Again...he could let the ok threads stay and delete the really stupid threads.

There is also no problem with not being here all the time, but I dont think it would be too much to ask of you to check and delete the retarded threads a couple times a day. it would be like checking your e-mail...haha...cant take more than 10 minutes or so a day could it?
