i have a 1 min video to put online but i want to make it small enough so it loads quickly but is still decently readable - in mov and wmv formats

anyone know the best render settings? i'd rather not waste my time fiddling with it and waiting to render each time.

for wmv9, use 320*240 resolution

If its a high action video, go with 300-500kbps, otherwise you can probably go lower (you just need to run a few encodes and see what's tolerable).

run the audio down to mono and 32kbps unless it's music.

1080p is only like 10mb/s

who doesn't have that pipe in this day and age?


alternatively i'd try something between 320x240 and 640x480.

Of course thats if the ratio is 4:3

WMV HD will brings it down to like 10mbps

As mentioned in that article the problem with compressing the video like that is that the end hardware needs to decode it.

hahah yea right.

Funny thing, almost no computer can yet playback WMV HD without hardware decompression help. I mean I applaud Microsoft and all, but seriously.
