whats up with 87a on the first spdt relay 1/19/2006 7:32:07 PM |

That's the terminal number. SPDT relay flip-flops between 87 and 87a terminals when current is applied to the field coil. 1/19/2006 7:39:28 PM |

what is the purpose of that first relay?
ahhhh, i see it is being used to complete the ground which is advise i have given before but was told i was an idiot and didn't know what i was doing.

looks like to me it is grounding the wrong thing, like a dead short, instead of the fans
[Edited on January 19, 2006 at 9:29 PM. Reason : and why are both fans running off a 1 a fuse? the relays are labels wrong] 1/19/2006 9:28:43 PM |

^^hahaha i remember that thread.
in this case its the easiest way to activate the OEM fan relays (grounding the wire from the PCM to the relay)
a few hours ago i was adamant that the guys design wouldnt work, so i made my own. then i went back and looked at his, and now his looks right.
it still irks me that you have to ADD 3 relays to the car just to activate the cooling fans in a way that dosent set codes
^ 1A is sufficient. the new relays are just used to activate the 40A factory fan relays. circuits dont run off fuses, the run through them. but any fuse would work i guess, they will just take longer to burn.

seems a bit excessive, probably could be done easier with a board
[Edited on January 19, 2006 at 9:35 PM. Reason : the solenoid part of the relay is hot from the fuse and grounded to the fan???] 1/19/2006 9:34:25 PM |

real quick:
what is the advantage of this setup over stock 1/19/2006 9:43:43 PM |
optmusprimer All American 30318 Posts user info edit post |
stock, (with AC off) the PCM activates low speed @ 215deg. and high speed @ 225 or something. makes the 180deg thermostat pretty useless. 1/19/2006 9:53:37 PM |

so, to answer the question of this thread........
there is nothing wrong with this schematic other than the fact that the installer is too fucking lazy to install 3 relays and is probably nervous about doing it since it will confuse the living shit out of him. 1/19/2006 10:00:02 PM |
