http://www.i-marco.nl/weblog/

I really like that site. color scheme, navigation, and style. I'm new to web coding and I'd like to know how I can use this site's code as a template for my own experimental site.

Is that even legal? How can I view his source (he's using css) and chop it up to my liking?

im no pro at webdesign, but i like the look of it

You can look at the CSS by going to Edit, View Source, and seeing the link to the .css file:

http://www.i-marco.nl/weblog/pivot/templates/imarco4.css

It looks like he's got some JavaScript files in there also, so you might need to take a look at them

I see there's a copyright at the bottom. Is that for the code?

Also, Can anyone explain what part of the code allowed him to use the 1 large picture in the background across all parts. I like the large picture with everything else overlaying it with a little bit of transparency. Can someone explain how that's done, or provide a specific link?

very, very nice site

for the background images, he probably just chopped up the original in photoshop and played with the transparency

check the css for something like background:url(xxxxxx.jpg);

People steal bits of code all the time.

If you're going to use it for some commercial purposes, I would ask. If you're going to use it for a client and sell it as your own, well, don't do that. If you want to use it to run your blog, nobody gives a shit.

"Can I rip your design or content?

You might or might not like the design of my website. I myself do. A ridiculous amount of time has gone into making this site into what it is right now and I'm really proud of the result. Therefore the answer to this question is: no!!! I have created two freely available Pivot Templates (find them on this site or on Pivotstyles) for anyone to enjoy but this template is mine. If I find you ripping anything from here I'll hunt you down, bad-mouth you in postings and submit your site to pirated-sites.com, the hall of shame of the internet. If you want me to design something for you there's always the possibility of sending me an email and who knows we'll work something out."

What's sad is thinking that somehow your "hard work" entitles you to owning something unique and thinking that people aren't going to at least imitate you, and that this is somehow an insult.

gosh.
