did that first video seem a bit bias to anyone else?
anycar will handle perfect given a nice traction control system and killing the power to the point where it wont lose traction.
sure if you stay on the gas in front wheel drive you are gonna slide off the road but by the same token if you stay on the gas in rear wheel drive you will end up spinning the car around.
lol and that test with the animals she didn't even drive the cars through it the same....she set the cars up to pass/fail 1/22/2006 8:50:46 PM |

that's an oversimplification. you can induce either understeer or oversteer in most RWD cars by gassing it more. a FWD will always understeer unless you trail brake it (which can induce oversteer in almost ANY car. I've spun a Camry before with trail braking...haha)
Yeah, this test wasn't really scientific or anything, but does anyone really care to dispute their claims? for any performance-oriented purpose. FWD is shitty. RWD is good. AWD can be good, but it comes with tradeoffs, so it doesn't really become advantageous until you're playing with a fair amount of power.

you can steer the car while it slides in rwd, unlike fwd where you are massively understeering. tard.1/22/2006 9:41:30 PM |

That Lada turned out to be pretty damned hilarious.
I wonder what the fuel economy is on a car that costs that much? 1/22/2006 9:48:55 PM |

Honestly I think that for "racing" "rallying" wet condition etc. awd is the best choice (well engineered AWD cars wont understeer), but AWD tends to eat gas.
I also like RWD cars (both my cars are RWD)
maybe a combination of AWD and rear wheel drive would be nice. AWD for launches and a little RWD to combat understeer in the twisties, so a variable torque splitter thingie (like in the R34 GTR)would be awesome.

that's still irrelevent, you shouldn't be understeering unless you are driving out of control...and problems come from both when you are out of control....she just didn't show that
i understand for an experienced driver that when pushing it to the limits you can do more with rwd.....but her focus were on normal(to a degree) driving situations.
She showed what pushing a fwd and awd car to hard would do....but she never pushed the rwd past its limits cause she didn't wanna end up backwards...she just turned on the trac control1/23/2006 1:40:44 AM |

pretty sure i saw the car get a little rear end sliding "drifting" if you will in the video. I think thats pushing it to its limits. watch the video again. tard.1/23/2006 8:09:11 AM |

They understeer horribly... I can attest to that... but they are frickin' fun to whip around in empty wet parking lots! A very forgiving car to us n00bs. (I'm still waiting for the snow)
