Okay, so I built a new computer and I couldn't boot from my old windows installation for whatever reason. I'm working on getting that fixed. In the meantime, I installed windows on my other drive and that's been working fine. I can access the other drive with no problems, but my user folder on the installation of windows is password protected. It has ~40 gigs of music, ~20 gigs of videos, and countless irreplaceable personal documents. I know the login and pass information needed to access it, but Windows doesn't ask me for it when I try to go in there. It just says "C:\Documents and Settings\Jon is not accessible. Access is denied.
Is there anything I can do in case I can't figure out how to boot from that windows installation? Help! 1/23/2006 1:19:45 PM |

I don't see anything remotely like that after right click -> properties. I've got General, Sharing, and Customize. This is in XP home, by the way.
Hmm, the internet seems to think I need to be in safe mode for this to work, that seems overly retarded.

Go into *safe mode*
once in safe mode, go to "C:\Documents and Settings\" right click on Jon, and select sharing and security. Click on Advanced, click on Owner, in the list of available owners on that screen, select the name of the CURRENT user name you are logged onto in safe mode. Now click the box labeled "Replace permissions for all subdirectories/folders" or whatever, and hit apply. You will see a window pop up taking owner ship of all of the files. After it finishes, you should be able to go to Jon with no problems. Hope that helps 1/23/2006 3:29:51 PM |
