Conservatives, as a group, are not afraid of homosexuality. A select few are afraid, disgusted, morally opposed to homosexuality. The rest play off this fear to garner votes.

I think its simply because people are thinking that by "allowing gay marriage" it means that it affects the Christian concept of marriage. Honestly, I think most of the hoopla is simply poor communication and that most people in this country are uneducated idiots. I've talked to several Christian-conservatives who are aopposed to gay marriage, and if I ask about a civil union giving them legal rights like insurance coverage or whatever they are fine with it. Then again I also know some seriously homophobic individuals that are so freaked out that the idea of sharing a locker room at a health club with them disgusts them.

I answered the initial question: WHY ARE CONSERVATIVES SO AFRAID OF HOMOSEXUALS?

Very few people are afraid of homosexuals, and I believe that. I have never heard someone say "I'm afraid of homosexuals." I've heard "It ain't natural." "That's gross." "What's up with the lisp?" etc...

You don't have to be afraid of something to discriminate against it.

I think there is a difference between being afraid of the gays and disagreeing with gay rights activists. Many are just resistant to change on the issue of gay marriage, like most other social issues.
