Looks like CBS and Warner Brothers are joining together and merging the WB and UPN networks into one, calling it the CW network starting in September. Hopefully it'll take the networks out of the ratings basement.

As long as Everybody Hates Chris stays on the air, I don't care.

yeah it will have to be 28, 22 has all the syndicated shows AND a nightly news, something 28 does not have, plus 22 has been around a lot longer

^^ both networks will shut down... my guess would be that Sinclair will keep the new network on 22, which is more established and is HDTV ready.
without the WB affiliation, 22 would be nothing but reruns and news.. which they'll be able to fit on the new network anyways..

They're going to combine top rated shows form both networks to form the primetime lineups. They are also keeping the schedule format that WB holds currently.. 8-10 M-F.. 7-10 Sundays.. 3-5 afternoon block etc.

ok first two things i thought:

i like cbs probably having access to a ton of movies on warnerbros and also, i dont really like the odds of cbs trying to beef up a network thats gonna be going against theres

flop in the making IMO

all they need is that one show that gets them the spotlight though

^^Well they aren't technially going against the main CBS channel The idea is that the programming will be for teens and young adults moreso than for older adults. So while you might have a show like CSI or if it was still on Everybody loves Raymond in a timeslot against Veronica Mars or Smallville, something that does compete a little, but not a head to head competition like two comedies or two older adult dramas like CSI vs. Law & Order.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch of the minority shows get the axe though. I can't see some of the big WB shows like Smallville, Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, etc. getting cut for stuff like Eve, etc. Though Everybody Hates Chris is definitely going to keep on kicking.

One thing I think might help them would be to up change the news to a 10:30 or 11 pm timeslot. That would give them an extra hour to help accomodate the bigger lineup of shows they have now. Just my two cents.

^^^ And you also realize that VIACOM the owner of CBS owns UPN, MTV, BET, and variety of other networks. Since this network essentially replaces UPN they still would be competing against CBS in the sense that you describe. Like was already pointed out, both networks appeal to different demographics.
