I've never come across a Windows AIM client that didn't suck (DeadAIM was the best).

Same thing for a Windows IRC client.

gaim is good in linux, because its clunky UI fits the rest of the OS.

GAIM in Windows is just goofy, because its clunkiness is a different kind of clunky than Windows.

you can edit your odl's in aim to enable logging.. with the plain jane aim client. atleast in these older clients I use (4.8 and 5.0.98)

triton is trillian basically with a different interface.. all the new features in triton are ripped from trillian

there is a way to log in triton if it doesn't already do so..

goto the settings and type config in the search box.. then look for the logging IM function and change it to 1..

try trillian, if you like it it's the best thing ever, if you don't imediately like it though you'll probably end up hating it. same way with triton.

google desktop's a good suggestion though.

Gaim does exactly this without any maintenance whatsoever. I'm sorry you don't like it.

middleman. its an addon like deadaim, but it doesnt have ad blockers. you have to get that separately. middleman will log convos, and allow cloning, and buddy aliasing, etc. there's no tabbed chat windows i dont think, but other than that, its got most everything else i can think of.

Trillian > all. From basic as they come to highly interactive. It's kinda stupid how it's initially setup so you have to go to the messages and uncheck "Grouping and grammer check" then find a skin ya like. Think winamp but for messaging. That's trillian.

the only time trillian is ok is if you are on multiple messengers and want one to do it all
other than that it sucks
and so does winamp by the way

Trillian sucks. I downloaded and installed it and it is too confusing for me to use. Too many options. Gaim is simple and easy and ad free. And it's open source.
