^^^^^have you ever dated someone who was abusive? the sort of person who'd trash their OWN belongings and say you did it to get back at you for breaking up with them? Clearly not. I don't want his money, I want my SAFETY and SECURITY.

if you need that piece of paper to make sure he doesnt abuse you, you need some help picking out who to form long term relationships with and/or how to go about getting out of them properly. we're not exactly a society that puts up with that kinda of thing anymore.

Ahh y'all are short sighted. Crazy doesn't always make itself apparent immediately. It can take months or years before you see it. Luckily, I got out before he ever raised a hand to me. I saw it and walked away from the relationship.

Had I been living there, with both names on a lease, it'd have been much harder to leave. There's a reason some women get stuck in bad relationships. I didn't have those things so I was able to GTFO safely.

I think the logistics would just be kind of complicated, I mean if you're just dating someone you can break up any time there is no formal commitment, no binding legal contract, and then you two have to negotiate things like who moves out, who pays the rent, bills etc. Maybe 50% of marriages end in divorce, but that's usually a few years down the road at least, and probably more like 95% of "dating" relationships end a lot sooner. If you break up and you're still living together (guys and girls share places all the time) would you be ok with him/her dating someone else?

Also if you want to get away from your s/o you can't just stay at home. What if you want friends over to watch tv, play cards or whatever...

It's probably not quite so romantic going on dates either, but maybe that's not what you're going for. I mean if you're always sharing a box of hamburger helper and watching friends together every night, it seems the whole dating thing has been dulled a bit.

aw you didn't. i feign outrage on the internet alot. it takes more than that to actually upset me, but i DO get annoyed with stereotypes like that
