I have an AMC ambassador with a 360 engine. It currently has the later style GM points distributor. When AMC went to electronic ignition, did they use an HEI distributor on their V-8's, or was it a different type of electronic ignition? I know that this motor was used for a long time after they stopped making big cars in Wagoneers and pickups. 1/27/2006 9:57:57 PM |

My brother put a gm hei dizzy in his wagoneer with a 360, so it can be done. I think it was easy, but i have no idea how he did it. 1/27/2006 11:44:00 PM |

I'll start looking around. If it had the Ford or older GM style points that you simply adjusted with a feeler gauge, I wouldn't mind, but I hate the later ones that you adjust with a dwell meter and have to fiddle with an allen wrench in that little window on the cap. 1/28/2006 9:23:25 AM |

Its my understanding that you can modify a gm HEI dist. to go in the AMC 360, no points, no nothing. I put pertronix in my truck, I like it. But if i had the option of HEI and it was easy, I would go that route. If you leave the key on, engine not running, the pertronix burns up. In fact, they burn up pretty easy anyway. 1/28/2006 2:50:19 PM |
