Well... After a week or two working on the R6 project with my friend (http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=381713), I wanted another bike as a project bike.

So, I found this 2004 Honda CBR600 RR for $2000. Bike has less then 3500 miles on engine and runs beautifully. Frame untouched, subframe straight, forks straight, brakes good, and engine cases and block are all good.

The Bad: Front stay bar is broke in two, needs new front upper cowl piece(s), new headlights, new left handle bar, new left foot bracket, needs new rear tire and various small things that I've yet have to account for (pretty much cosmetic shit).

The plan right now is to get it back to ridable stage (streetfighter style), but I'll end up spending a bit to get it pretty again.

Special thanks to wolfpuppy04 for finding this for me.

It'll cost about 100-200 bucks to get the handle bar replaced, but about 600 for new front stay bar, lights, and faring, if i'm lucky.

the planned budget is to try to spend no more then a grand on fixing it up. I've been looking at various online and ebay stores. So far I've compiled a list of what I need:

Upper stay bar: 70-100 shipped
Headlights: 100-250 shipped
Upper cowl faring: 150-350 shipped
left shift peg: 40-100 shipped
left passenger peg: 40-80 shipped
handlebar clipon bracket: 75-100 shipped
New rear tire: 160

Charged the battery and holds the charge fairly well. Taking the other plastic farings off the bike, reparing the damaged ones with fiberglass and taking off a shit load of JB weld that the previous owner used to 'fix' the bike. I'll prolly take the rear tire off this week and add a new tire on.

I don't think I'll stay within my budget. Oh, also ridding the fugly license plate holder.

haha that's great. that fucking bolt pissed me off. i had everything lined up just right. and i was wondering why the bolt wouldnt catch.. it's bc we stripped out the farthest the bolt can reach on that mount bc the bolt fits like shit. no worries getting longer bolts tomorrow

6? where did you get that? I paid about 2500 for the f2 and 2 for the RR, thats roughly 4500 for bikes. I paid less for the 04 rr then you invested on your new computer. Once the RR is fixed, it'll be a nice bike.

I ghetto rigged the left handle bar on the triple tree with zip ties. hehe. After which I took a nice test drive. I love the bike. Then I took the test drive all the way to cyclegear of where I got a nice new Metzler M3 180/55/17 tire. I'm buying other parts on ebay right now so I'll have to wait a bit till those are done for auctions.

Later this week, I'm going to start repairing the plastic pieces with fiberglass. The biggest concern is the front upper cowl plastic piece for the headlights. Clearance issues when I fiberglass the pieces together may become a problem (plastic piece is about 300 bucks). I just realized that the drive chain is rusted so I'll prolly replace that or just lube it up and see what happens.

Also, I just checked the original Bill of Sale from the previous owner. He paid 8500 for it new. Yup, a steal. Requires work, but its all good.

Ok, bought all the parts right now.

left front foot peg: $34.95
Headlights: $157.50
faring bracket (front stay bar): $51
left rear foot peg: $30
left clipon handle bar: $59.95

That comes out to $333.4 + shipping for new parts. Add the rear tire ($187.23) and I've spent $520.63 so far.

Finally got all but one part in this week (left handle bar). So I started some work on the RR.

My bikes. As you can notice, no more huge globs of glue on the headlights as everything up front is replaced. I got a new front farings as well, but in the works of sanding it down and repaint. I forgot to pick up some plastic weld so I couldn't do much cept fiberglass some stuff. I think it looks evil without the farings IMO.

Honda's 03+ RR bikes are radically designed now that the air box and gas tank are split instead of the usualy gas tank ontop of the airbox. This way, you don't need to take the gas tank off (which is a pain when you have a full tank of gas) to change the air filter (which is a snap now). Took 15 mins to get access to the filter and replace the stock one with the KN.

Since I'm still waiting on the handle bar, I decided to JB weld it for the time being. I had zip ties on there, but they kept shifting around.

wtf
yeah thats radical as fuck. i can see how thats extremely useful, since you are only gonna replace the air filter once untill you wreck it or sell it. aslo, unless you are a double amputee, in 15 min you should be able to replace a conventional air filter AND change the oil. so yeah, honda marketing dept. got yer ass on that one.

you're spending hundreds on new parts after wrecking and you're worried about $5 in bondo?

it's a lot cheaper to not wreck.

^haha yeah i know. He keeps bugging me for that can of resin which is pretty much 1/2 gone since we used it to fix it up the first time. Kyle, your still gonna have to buy another can of resin. BTW, the resin that is being used to fix up the other bike (hawk) is my resin. So I could be an asshole and ask for it back... that and the fiberglass cloth being used for it. But since I'm not one, I could care less.
