Some rust built up on the razor but still "very sharp". Just shaved with it yesterday to check. Conair chrome hot lather machine still in excellent condition.
Selling as a set.

Due the questions flowing in, here's some more information:
Purchased two years ago at the Pottery in Williamsburg, VA for $30.
Blade has been blade sharpened so that it could be used.
The handle is not made of ivory or else I definitely would be selling on ebaY.
No writing on the case.
No longer have a strop I made for it but they can be easily made or purchased through ebaY.
The heater takes Barbasol or Colgate sized cans, not the edge gel type. Turn the switch, heats up in one minute.
And yes, it is sharp enough to slice cheese and to cut off "Lil Pig's" tail.

$5 for razor
How did you get it honed? 1/29/2006 6:09:16 PM |

I looked up some knife sharpener places up in the phone book when I was in Oklahoma City for a year and dropped it off with this old guy who still used one too. He fixed it up for me and charged either $10 or $12. He also sent me to a leather goods store to get the materials to make a strop. 1/29/2006 7:19:39 PM |

For those of you actually wondering, there is no rust on the part that will touch your face if you shave properly. 1/29/2006 8:08:11 PM |

I'm trying to sell as a set, but maybe. Depends on how much I get for the blade. 1/30/2006 12:43:13 PM |

im still wonderin why you are tryin to sell a used razor.... 1/30/2006 2:06:29 PM |
rtrimyer Veteran 415 Posts user info edit post |
couple reasons:
First: many people collect them (although I doubt this one is very valuable)
Second: some people still use them or may want to and you can't buy them new. At least when I was searching for one to use a couple years ago, no stores carried them and thus, you have to buy a used one. Straight razors aren't disposable like your Mach3s, they last forever. 1/30/2006 5:01:36 PM |

actually, they do not last forever, and yes you can get new blades, just not at target or the like 1/30/2006 11:24:02 PM |

Why would you replace the blade? That's what you buy the razor for in the first place. 1/30/2006 11:53:13 PM |

Googled "straight razors last forever". Below is a sample.
"straight razors last forever" http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2004/12/05/AR2005033003666.html
"Before Gillette, men shaved with straight razors, which require skill to both make and use, and lasted almost forever" http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20050127.html
"good straight razors will last forever if you take care of them" http://www.43things.com/things/view/18743
Now, if you go around tossing the blade in the road, yeah, it won't. Companies used to make shaving razors that used disposable razor replacements (longer than a box cutter type). See http://www.classicshaving.com/catalog/item/522941/249408.htm
Maybe you're just confused tkeaton.
Thanks for the offer Spyami.
