Hey any help I can get is appreciated. I am looking for a mp3 player with a decent size hard drive that can store pictures on it. The most important thing is transferring pictures from my camera to my phone. I will be out of the country so I will not have a computer. I have a sony digital camera and am wondering if there are any mp3 players out there that I can transfer photos from the camera direct to the player using a USB cable. Thanks

ipods can with the photo link addon. how you'd then get it to your phone, I don't know.

get an ipod video +

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/72604/wo/UG6FST1NfWGB3osI9qa1p5IDe3h/1.SLID?mco=55EFC253&nplm=M9861G%2FA

do note the compatibility list at the end of the description, not the garbage in red, but the actual list of ipods it works with. don't be one of those idiots that thinks "ipod with color display" means ipod nano. that's the old ipod photo. it'll work with that model and the ipod video only.

you can get both the video and the photo connector for less if you go to the ncsu bookstore, or apple store, and flash a student/falculty/staff ID. also, you can get the ipod for the education price online if you look for "more stores" and "education" on the right hand side of the store home page. online you'll also get free engraving.

no problem, ipod video+connector will probably be enough. most people don't have more than 10 gigs of music they really like, so probably the 30 gig one for 269 will be enough. the connector is 26 bucks education price, so that basically makes the total around what the video would normally cost anyways.

I know some other Mp3 players will do this too, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

But yeah, if you do go the apple route, do NOT pay full retail price for it. even if you weren't a student, you could still select southern alabama as your school on the education section and it requires no verification of enrollment or anything. Please do not give apple more money than you really need to...

it has some terrible reviews, but most of them are really good. and yeah I've used it. note that some of those reviews were from idiots, and some were from people with genuine compatability issues. search through and see if people mention sony cameras specifically.

one guy was trying to use a memory card reader and not an actual camera, so he was expecting it to do something that wasn't in the product description. another was using it with the wrong ipod. others seemed to have bad luck with their camera compatability. works fine with my fuji though. but yeah, if you can find a non-apple alternative with good reviews, go for it. saving money is always nice.

iAudio X5 can transfer pictures without the use of an additional connector, it has a USB host port.

20/30/60 gig versions available.

Also, has a 5 band parametric equalizer with multiple user settings, supports FLAC and OGG, views pictures and movies (although you have to format the movies special for it using iRiverter [it's easy]), has a kick ass on-board mic for recording, and has a built in FM radio. Very nice sound quality as well.

That's the alternative if you're not into iPods.

iAudio x5 30gb

http://www2.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?utm_id=17&ref=pricegrabber&sku=JAX5LBL

best price I found for it, comparable to 30gb ipod+photo transfer in terms of price. iaudio has more features though.

the 60 gb iaudio beats the 60gb ipod in features AND price handedly.

^ some of the new iriver harddrive players boast as much battery life. some new powersaving technology combined with better Li cells I think?

How about this? Much bigger screen than the others, kind of expensive, but really really cool. I love iriver stuff.

i wish more companies would give more info as to the full capabilites of their products. None seem to boast the fact that you can transfer direct from camera to player. Its hard to figure out which ones can and cant. thanks for the help guys I dont think I would ever found one without your suggestions.

i can't stress how much you should NOT get an ipod, unless the 5gs don't have constantly broken batteries and hard drives
