I really need to get them off my pc. My symantec anti-v is corrupted to the point of dysfunction. I tried stinger but that diddn't detect anything, and I know that it is infected. My pc is very sluggish, certain media won't load, and there are frequent pauses. Are there any reliable free software recomendations that I could use anyone?

try your current virus program, but try to download any updates before doing this. you may also want to use something like "stinger", a stand alone anti-virus program. some viruses can disable and or disrupt updates.

also, try programs like spybot search and destroy, lavasoft adaware, and hijack this. it's quite possible that you have a hijacker or something like that.

In the end, the surest way to do it, and most painful, is to reformat, and reinstall.

I've included links to everything I've mentioned, plus the antivirus software free to NCSU students/faculty/staff. The last link is a manual definition update; it's for if you're using symantec corperate edition 9 and it's failing to update.

hey dude I really appreciate the help. Im just gonna go down the list until I solve this. I just ran a reg anti-v scan on safe mode, but came up with nothing. I downloaded stinger earlier(ran it but came up with nothig), but I havent ran it in safe mode yet. I guess this is the trial an error stage bc I really dont have the patience to reformat and reinstall.
