you guys do this every year and every year we make fun of you.
you know that's YOUR money the government is giving back to you after you lent it to them INTEREST FREE all year, right?
fix your withholding allowances, open an ING direct savings account, select the automatic contribution thing, and make 4% on money you wont miss anyway. 2/2/2006 12:27:45 PM |

my roommate mentioned something about claiming as a full time student and getting back close to 1500 each year she's been in school. i will openly admit my extreme lack of knowledge in this department, and have always just trusted that after I do my taxes through Turbo Tax and have my dad look over them, that I've done all I can. I'm a waitress so I figured that's why I owed so much last year, but I have co-workers getting back over 1000 still. Does it have to do with whether my dad is claiming me as a dependent still?

My thoughts exactly
I never understood why people let the government hold onto their money. Play the game right and you dont owe shit and you dont get shit back

^^4% interest on your tax savings over the course of the year is not very much. For a typical tax savings of $1000, it ends up being right around $20 bucks.
Plus, I'm not that good at saving money, if I put it in a savings account I'll probably try to tap into it for something stupid.

WRONG.
When I was 15, I worked at Winn Dixie as a bag boy.
I set up an account with ING and sent the extra money there instead of letting the government hold it all year.
Now I am retired at age 27 because of that money. 2/3/2006 7:57:03 AM |

Well the penalty for not sending in quarterly is only like $50. I should be able to pay it when it comes due. I am going to have my taxes done in the next couple of weeks to see how fucked I am.

AHAHA! That's how some of these pretentious fucks on here act. Like having a 4% return on my ~$1000 is going to affect my life somehow. Maybe one day if I'm pulling in six figures and have kids and investments and whatnot it will matter, but for the time being I like being "fooled" into thinking that I'm getting free money when I get that tax return.2/4/2006 3:40:38 AM |

Just got my federal tax return: $6158 State's gonna be $750
and that's with 4 exemptions. Having a non-working spouse dropped me an entire bracket.
