What do you think about this?

I've never liked it at all but a lot of really successful coaches seem to do it... definitely a newer trend, never remember hearing about until Osbourne did it in the late 80s

a team that can think on their feet is a lot better than one relies on scripted plays.

but this is coming from a soccer player.

yeah, I could see it more in college, but in the pros, with how complex and varying defenses can be, it blows my mind that coaches do this. Obviously they wont release the plays to the media so we will never really know, but I wonder just how close to the script coaches that say they do this stay.

I mean say Holmgren (who says he scripts the first 15 plays) has a toss sweep scheduled for the 9th play but on that down it happens to be 3rd and 16.... no way he keeps that play.

alot of teams script plays, because they want to see how the defense reacts to the play...like different formations, so they can see as many formations that the defense has....so you have gotten alot of the defensive reactions within the 1st 10-15 plays.....then you adjust your offense of how they reacted and hope it works.

But implicit in scripting plays is the fact that they are not followed 100% Qbs still audible plays even when they are scripted.

and that too^

i mean if you have a sweep right on the next play, and they shade to that side, you are not going to try and run to that side

yeah, thats what I am saying. So its really more of a general gameplan and not so much a "script"
