ok so i cranked my car yesterday morning and it was fine drove it 2 miles to get some gas and when i cranked it again after filling up it was idleing at 2500 in park and between 12-1500 in drive

any one know what may have caused this/advice for fixing it without paying an arm and a leg

i threw gas all over the engine bay of one of those mercurys.


after that if you put some open flame to it, it fixes about every problem

probably the idle air control motor stuck open, or a vacuum leak. start by listening for a loud hiss and locating it. if you cant find a leak, take off the iac, get a friend to start the car while you hold your palm over the intake hole. if you can control the idle to a reasonable speed with your hand, then you need a new iac motor.
