It's not as if teams stop paying their players when they are assigned to the NBDL.

This was inevitable, as the Nuggets have 6.02 x 10^23 SGs/swingmen on their roster, and his summer surgery didn't help earn PT.

this is not sad, he is not getting any fucking burn, everyone knew he was a project

he needs playing time, earlier in the season all the reports were that he was asking to play down, his money will still be the same and hopefully next year this time he has some experience and starts to get some minutes and confidence in the big league!

Why do people act like going to a development league in basketball is a career death wish, when it's par for the course in baseball and hockey?

"make it out"

damn, i think you guys are all wrong, he is a first round pick, he does not have to "make it out", he is "out" they are just sending him down to actually get some playing time, he will be on the roster next year

nobody has any problem with Ladd going back and forth for the Canes, they are just trying to get the kid reps and shifts

same situation here, but damn, you people ask as if he is an unsigned free agent trying to scrap it out a la Josh Powell for a roster spot

he obviously has a leg up on most people in the nbadl because he was the 20th draft pick. but the difference here between the ladd/cane situation is that i believe nba teams are only allowed to demote a player to the developmental league twice and thats it. its not quite as free as hockey. you cant just move someone down for a week here and there. the situation can end up being a lot more permanent than hockey.

but you're right, "make it out" wasnt the best phrase because he's not really as "in" as a lot of those guys, like grundy.

What the hell kind of development league is it if you can only move someone down twice?

BTW, the new NHL regulations require any player with more than three years of NHL experience (and some other criteria sets as well) to be waived on the way down and the way back up to the AHL/ECHL.

Hockey is VERY different from the NBA as far as minor league affiliations go.

god damn.....thanks for providing me with this info that I was clearly lacking

I was just making a parallel, and showing that going down for PT for young pro athletes is not that bad of a thing

it is clear by the tone of this early thread that many on here thought Hodge had been dismissed from the team, contract restructured, demoted, etc. and I was just trying to point out that the kid has been ASKING to go down for some time now because he feels he can better himself with playing time.

The only difference between the hockey minors and the NBDL is the stigma attached to it, in the future I am sure that the NBA would love for the NBDL to become profitable, and have fan bases, and provide a place for the young talent in the league to cut their teeth, but right now it carries a journeyman stigma to it, and that should not be the case, especially with a guy like hodge who could CLEARLY benefit from some playing time, travel/game experience, and some time in the gym.

well that and the limitation on how much a player can move back and forth. in hockey, if someone's having a bad stretch, you send em down to work out the kinks. cant do that in the nba. well i guess you can but its far less of an option.
