Anybody seen a 300ZX w/ a small block ford/chevy swapped in? or maybe a 4.6/LS1.

Post website if you know of any.

why do people take fairly well sorted cars and completely change the dynamics of them by doing something like this.

Might as well just own a Mustang or Camaro. The 300ZX looks great, but it isn't exceptionally light or well-mannered on the road like the RX-7's and Miatae that normally get this type of treatment.

there's no point in putting it into a 300zx.

the earlier Z's are much better candidates. If you are so inclined, http://www.hinsonsupercars.com makes kits for installing LS1's into Rx-7s, 2nd or 3rd generation.

http://www.hybridz.org

best one you'll find, mostly associated with z cars and not zx's, but they're in there

I love these cars, they're just a subpar platform for this swap.

actually the jags-that-run manual paints a rather clear picture of how decently even the weight distribution remains with a 350sbc swap in the 280's

honestly though, who puts a chevy in a datsun for twisties?

this one's high on my list, i'd probably like to do something like this if i had time/$$$ for a project
