Personally, I'm leaning towards the 4runner. I used to have a Toyota pickup(before it was the 'tacoma') and I absolutly loved that truck, and it got me great gas mileage. The mileage is higher, but from what I've heard, toyota engine's will run forever. ON THE OTHER HAND, I've also heard that Ford's tend to 'knock' once they get a big aged. All input is appreciated. 2/8/2006 3:39:35 PM |

I'd be more inclined to trust a 146K Toyota over an 86K Ford, especially when both vehicles in consideration are over 10 years old. 2/8/2006 6:11:44 PM |

aside durability, why is everyone always praising 4runner. i know engine is not all that powerful...
off road capability? 2/8/2006 6:32:15 PM |

the ranger won't have any power either.
the 4runner is more refined feeling better riding and if it happens to have an e- locker better off road.
a ranger will have shitty ford interior and the throttle position sensor will go bad every 50k miles. it will also ride like ass.
+ the removable hardtop rocks, having a backseat thats useful is cool too and you can pull it out take the top off and the 4runner is pretty much a truck.

I gotta disagree here and go with the Ranger. I have 94 Ranger that has over 110k more miles than that one and is driven 60 miles round trip 5.5 days a week. The only problem I have had in the last year now has been that the fan clutch had to be replaced. It has held up remarkably well in my mind for a Ford, and I'm a pretty hardcore GM guy. 2/8/2006 7:24:31 PM |

yeah like i said... i got about 323k miles out of mine but i rebuilt the transmission twice 5th gear was a pos. and replaced the throttle position valve about 4-5 times and the starter twice so i guess when you think about it... thats not too aweful bad. 2/8/2006 7:27:51 PM |

I know the ranger you are talking about. I went and looked at it, STAY AWAY.. that thing was so rusted as well as nasty dirty inside. plus it had a leak out the rear main seal (why the clutch needed to be changed). ANytime you need to remove a bolt from that thing, would be a pain in the ass. Plus it had euro tail lights and fake carbon fiber side mirrors... it was nasty. 2/8/2006 7:41:53 PM |

I'd take a Toyota any day over the Ranger...
although if I ran across a Ranger DIRT CHEAP then I would think about buying it. They aren't bad trucks, and I can work on one if I have to.
But if I got the 'yota, then I wouldn't have to work on it as much. 2/10/2006 1:53:14 AM |
