Which would be the better long-term investment? A bench tech job, making very little money but getting hands on technical experience. Or a technical based call-center, where I would be making sure that a company's proprietary technology does what its supposed to do, making about 3x what the bench tech job makes? My long term goal is to get into instructional technologies, so really niether is exactly applicable.

go for one with more money. You can then spend that money on applicable technical training.
