just realizing this, so sorry if i am behind...

FSU's students were more pumped up last night against UMASS then i think we have ever been.

Why dont we have ANY uniform cheers? Its always some jump, some dont, some scream "ohhhhhhhh", others dont. Its tough watching that shit from my seat, but i really feel like we arent doing our best. I have watched some home games from my house, only to see students not even paying any attention at all to the games....is sad.

I know our venue is not the best for college basketball, I'll give you that, but as students, you all can do your part in trying to make that bitch as loud as absolutely possible.

LETS GET SOME GOOD CHEERS GOING.

SEE YOU WEDNESDAY NIGHT!!

yeeeah, you're an idiot.

uniform cheers are "cool" and all, but usually come off sounding really gay and scripted, see Duke.

Sure, we could always be louder, but we do a pretty good job when the games are close or worth soemthing, see several quotes that I don't want to dig up about players from other schools saying how we are the most rattling student section.

ok? Ok.

I think the alumni need to be a little louder as well. It's pitiful when the only people cheering half the game are the small contingent of students around the court.

Everybody needs to get louder, alumni/students/band.... GET LOUDER!!!!!

The main problem is students getting tickets to the game who have NO BUSINESS even going to the games. Girls talking on cell phones, douche bags who dont cheer, people who don't have a clue what is going on, etc...

If you aren't there to support the team, GTFO!

The only thing that's horrible about our student section is the appearance. It's always the uglies and fatties that get on tv. Is it just because that's what makes up the majority of the student wolfpack club or something? Seriously, all my friends from other schools are like WTF is up with your students dude?

^^ can concur with that..for example for the MD game, I knew 3 girls who had never been to a NCSU sporting event, who went to campout out, then got great tickets, didnt know the fight song, the alma mater, or what the hell was even going on. I am sure it is much more rampant with our lovely online system

trust me, im not trying to be a hater, we all could just do so much better.

^Bitch, i dont have to be iat all of those places to understand the fact that we pail in comparison to them.

Its apparent every time you watch an ACC game. Our students, as well as our fans/alum. arent into the game for some reason.

THE RBC CENTER IS DEAD.

^wtf?

i guess thats sarcasm.....not very good sarcasm, but nonetheless....

I dont think we will "be quiet", i just think we need more noise. Noise when the opponents are on offense, shooting freethrows, etc.

We are inconsistent with the fan participation. The students, as well as the fans, dont seem to "get into" the games like most others.

I will give you the fact that the fans (not students) are a far worse dissapointment then the students this year, given the fact that we are off to one of the best starts in 20-30 years.

this thread is retarded. NC State's student section has never been bad. You need to travel to some other places some more before you make that contention. NC State isn't the best, but it sure as hell isn't the worst.

right!
but until UNC or BC, what home games have we had that we would have any reason to go apeshit over?

I'm pretty sure GW is the only ranked team we've played in the RBC (and UMD, but they suck). We have good fans, but they aren't TOOLS like Duke fans, there's no reason to go absolutely ballistic when we're beating up on a lot of the shitty teams we've played at home. I've been to all of the home games since the ACC season started, and we have been loud when it has counted. Weren't we down to Virginia with a few minutes left? Were you there for the Virginia game? Everyone was going completely apeshit, and the fan support carried us to victory. When its necessary, we will be incredibly loud. It will be necessary for UNC and BC, and it will probably be necessary for FSU in a close game on Wednesday.

I'll be courtside screaming my head off all game, but I will save some lung for the last few minutes in case we're down. PACE YOURSELF

well, thats when they need the most support, wouldn't you say?

I know it sounds fairweather-ish, but its the way our fans are. I've been to games for 5 years as well, and I don't think we've gotten quieter. I'm pretty sure we have a larger average student attendance now compared to 5 years ago, especially for the non rivalry acc games.

i dont agree.

the reason why the student are so close to the floor is to make hella noise througgout the entire game....not starting with 2 minutes left.

uh, we do make a lot of noise, we just choose not to go completely crazy until the game is on the line.

we don't see a need to have everyone bounce up and down in the first half. would you like us to do that?

there could be any number of reasons the students don't act insane whenever we see a basketball game

maybe the students only care if we beat unc, duke, and maryland (maybe wake), and the rest of the games are irrelevant

maybe the students aren't used to winning many games, and they don't know what to do with the new found success.

maybe too many freshmen are winning tickets and they have no school spirit

I'm not sure what writing a thread on TWW is going to change. I'm already planning on cheering my ass off. I'm not going to be sitting there quietly during the game, and then remember "oh shit, Panthro reminded us to cheer louder on TWW, i better get on it!"

Unless you have some constructive advice to make it better, just telling us to do so serves no purpose.

so help organize something or don't make a thread like this, we've seen at least one a week by now.

Look, i dont want us to be just like Duke, but the reason Duke is such an intimidating place to play for opposing teams is directly correlated to the fact that thier fans are non-stop, throughout the entire game whereas, like you said, we start with 2 minutes left.

okay, so assuming we continue our winning tradition, and just gradually take more pride in our program, do you recommend any course of action to expedite the crazyness level of our fans to a more acceptable standard?

should we do a semester long priority campout to get the best fans in there? what would you suggest.

After watching the games since I graduated, I have to agree with Panthro. There has been a steady decline in fan participation since we moved from reynolds to the rbc center. I expected there would be a pretty big dropoff b/c of the size of the place, but now it seems like the only time we cheer is when we string together a few huge plays, when it is close in the last 5 minutes, or when we are starting to fall behind by 6 or more. There have been a lot of situations this year where you could barely hear the crowd on tv when the game was close in the first half. I wish the season ticket holders would get into it more, but I think they usually follow the lead of the students. I bet if the students were rowdy for the whole game, the rest of the crowd would get more into it.

Possibly set up a ticketing structure that rewards the upper classmen, as they are more likely to cheer hard, have put more money, time & effort into the school. Not completely get rid of freshman seating, just give out the tickets on some type of curve. (probably not fair, but definitely effective)

from everything i hear, the current system does not work, and the getting tickets has become a competition just to get the tickets, but not to actually go to the games and cheer (hence the people who just socialize in the student section and pay no real attention to the game while it is being played). The reward should be watching the game, not "winning" good tickets.

thats my first thought....i'll be back with another in a few. Let me think.

OO OO, i know, what about identical tshirts for all the students, so we feel more UNIFIED and thus act as a group in crazy cheering for the big games

it could say Herb's Buds, The Red Terrors, The RBC Rowdies

possibilities endless here, people

I've been to Duke, Carolina, State, Gtech, Vtech, Wake, and Clemson 's home games, and while State doesn't beat Duke, it consistently is rowdier and more supportive than almost everyone else.

Keep in mind that recently we've had to stay loud with a mediocre team. It's easy to have the best student section when you've also been the best team in the league 75% of the past decade(Re: Duke).

Watching a game on TV and then going to game, you just can't compare the two.

With all that said, we could definitely improve and I wish the RBC center was rowdier. But to compare us to Miami is a fucking joke.

the freshmen could get left over seats in 300 level, or maybe somewhere near the upperclassmen so they learn the proper cheers.

another big thing i think could help is some sort of organized opponent free throw distraction. when I was in the band I'd get 10-20 other members to all wave their hands one way, and then on my signal they'd all swing their hands quickly the other way (right as the shooter was about to let go of the ball)
it was actually pretty effective, believe it or not.

I think Crede might have a point too, I can see the freshmen having a lot of energy, maybe putting a section of freshmen in between two sections of upperrclassmen or something..

I hated the new ticket system when they brought it in. I can remember back when I first got to state, a lineup began at Noon and you had to sit there until 430 or 5. You could swap with your friends so you could get to class, but in the end, it was usually the really diehard fans that were sitting close to the court. When they put that lottery system, it started screwing the diehards, and letting the casual, less enthuastic, fans sit courtside. I dont know what the system is like now, but from what I have read, it isnt better than what it was when I left.

i like the new system because it doesn't favor students who don't have to go to class/work. it encourages people to actually (GASP!) do work at school.

thats why we used to switch out with friends that didnt have class at the time. I can remember several afternoons where I sat out there and did homework or research papers...in fact, most people did, its not like we were tailgating out there for 5 hours every few days.
