the obvious:

anything less than Sweet16 is a failure. and if we want our program to rise on a national level, we gotta reach the Elite 8 at least

the uncertain:

after seeing us play against Seton Hall (which was verrrrry similar to an early round NCAA matchup), i have questions about what team will show up in the tournament.

the key:

as much as we have relyed on 3pt shooting, we will face more athletic teams that will key on stopping our perimeter offense, and if we aren't shooting well, we HAVE to have Ced step up and play big inside.

there's nothing that hasn't gone unsaid before, but seriously, I want AT LEAST Elite 8 and a shot at the final four. i dont want to blow another 9 point lead in the Sweet16.

I think we need to make consistent sweet 16 and elite 8 appearances in the coming years for our program to rise back to national prominence.

That being said, we'll have a tough time getting exposure in the shadows of Duke and UNC. Thanks to their phenomenal coaches and ESPN hype, they're going to maintain their dynasty status for a while i think.

I wouldn't care as much if we flop as long as somebody knocks Duke out early.

Therefore the 'I told you so's' will be in full force pertaining to the officiating.

I just want those cry babies over there to disappoint everybody.

Because they've done it so many times before.

In order to be successful in March (and for the rest of the regular season), we need:

1) All of our shooters to return to form and heat up.
2) Grant to progress.
3) Ced to go back to the style he had in the Duke game.
4) Brack to step up.
5) DEFENSE
6) and we need Atsur and Tony to push an effective transition game (like when we played Wake).

that is entirely different

if you made a thread at the end of the season counting down to the red/white game next year

i would recognize it as you already missing basketball and counting the days until it begins again

BUT THERE IS STILL BASKETBALL TO TALK ABOUT

in fact we still have a game tonight

if we lose our next 5 games, our entire ncaa tourney picture will change

same if we win our next 7 games

there is still alot of basketball to be played before we talk about the tourney

Quote :
"It’s January, so it must be time for March Madness. If you’re Joe Lunardi, that is.

Is it a pre-requisite that you need to be a complete tool to get a column on ESPN.com?

Remember when people didn’t start talking about the “bubble teams” in college basketball until the end of February when there were only a few games left in the season for some teams and they really needed to win out to secure a place in “The Big Dance”?

However, this ass face at ESPN.com (ESPN being the self proclaimed world wide leader in sports), starts his “Bracketology” column to predict the final brackets and seedings in January. JANUARY. That’s right, you read it correctly the first time. He’s predicting the 64 teams for a tournament that is known as March Madness which actually culminates in April... in January. Honestly, teams have hardly started into their conference schedules in January.

Now this past week, after Duke gets crushed at Georgetown, and UConn slips into the number spot on the poll he starts crying that’s it’s not fair. What’s not fair, Duke got shellacked by an unranked Georgetown team and looked horrible in the game? UConn, meanwhile, hasn’t lost in a week. It’s January, what’s not fair? You know what, why don’t you call Dick Vitale and you two Basketball Cowboys can stop over at Coach K’s and braid each other’s ball hair while you watch the tape of Christian Laettner stepping on that poor dude from Kentucky and commiserate about the obvious conspiracy against Duke.

It's never too early to start crying about Duke's seed
That’s Duke basketball BAY-BEE, right, Dicky-V?

Believe me I’m no UConn fan, the only fans UConn has are graduates, and the inbred goobers that live in the state of Connecticut who believe what the local papers say about the players being good kids, and George Bush being a good president.

Back to Lunardi. I mean, what good is a column that predicts the 64 teams that will make the NCAA tournament at this point in the season? UConn, the current number one team in the country is 16-1 (4-1 in their own conference and in 3rd place behind West Virginia and Pittsburgh). They have 12 games left, 7 of them against top 25 teams, the last regular season game occurring on March 4th. MARCH FUCKING FOURTH. Today is January 24th. C’mon Lunardi, get a hobby, organize your spice rack, carve a duck, watch your old tapes of the Bobby Hurley diarrhea game, do something else with your time.

But for the love of all that is good in college athletics, stop with this meaningless “Bracketology” charade, it’s a sad goddamn joke.

This is what I always wear when I call a Duke game Bay-Bee
Anyway, I saw a clip of you griping about UConn being number one instead of Duke, and you’re projecting which bracket they each would be in if the tournament selection committee made their picks today. Okay, first off, they would both be number one seeds, and if Duke is such a better basketball team, then why not make those lily white uptight pretentious pricks the fucking 64th seed and let them “run” through the tournament with their Cameron Crazies and their collagen-injecting coach.

Then we’ll see what a “real” number one seed can do.

Okay, quick, get a pen, here’s a news flash: the season doesn’t end tonight so the selection committee won’t have to wrestle with the UConn-Duke dilemma that is the cause of your ongoing consternation. In fact, the season won’t end tomorrow, or next week, or the week after that, or even the week after that. In fact the season has only just recently crossed over the halfway point. (In that most teams play a 30 game regular season schedule prior to their conference tournament; for Big East teams that could be an additional four games. However we won’t talk about the Big East, we’ll continue to pretend that the ACC is the best, even though Duke got shellacked by an unranked G-Town team and N.C. State got smacked around at home, for their first home loss by an upstart Seton Hall team who hadn’t won on the road all season).

Do the reading public a favor and stop writing about the NCAA tournament in January. Your insights are as useful as Dicky V is objective when covering a Duke game. (Read not useful and not objective"

Good quote. Honestly though I'll be very happy if we make it to the Sweet 16 again. Anything beyond that is gravy to me. At this time last year we could barely speak of tourny bids, much less Elite 8s so I am pleased with the progress. Plus we seem to be heading in the right direction overall as a program. Next year's recruiting class is not spectacular, but it is more guys for Herb's system and then 2007's class could be huge with Wright.

that was in direct response to your bracketology shit

and by my count we have a minimum of 6 games left

that is a pretty significant amount if you ask me

almost half of our conference games

Basing success or failure solely on how we do in the NCAA tournament is stupid.

You can't be so results oriented with something with a sample size of 1.

If you want to base a coach's performance on decade of NCAA results, fine.

We could lose in the 2nd round and I'd be satisfied if it's because a team shot lights out against us. However, I'm going to be pissed off if we lay a complete egg and embarrass ourselves (like the Wisconsin game last year, Seton Hall game this year) whether its in the first round or the Final Four.

I'm also going to be pissed off if we roll over and die down the stretch in typical Herb fashion (Vanderbilt, Maryland '03 ACC tourney, what we tried to do against Uconn last year, every UNC game in the past decade, etc).

I think we should go to at least the Sweet 16 this year.

If we could beat UConn last year I think we have a good shot this year of going even farther. As long as we hit our 3's and Simmons sticks in the lay ups and dunks we will last a while.

UNC will lose in the first or second round easily. The boys aren’t that good it’s all ESPN hype. God, it is so annoying to watch a UNC game. It doesn’t matter who they play (Duke or Miami) all I can hear the whole time is the smacking sound of the announcers sucking Roy Williams’s dick the whole game. I usually mute the TV and listen to music while I watch a UNC game.

Duke will lose probably in the Elite 8. They don’t play well enough on a consistent basis. I mean look at their season, V-Tech and Florida State almost knocked them off. I know we lost to Seton Hall but we aren't ranked 2nd in the country are we? State was bound to lose a dumb game just thank God it wasn't in the conference
