If UVA somehow gets a tourny bid, then Leitao should get it. Otherwise it will be Roy because his 20 yr old freshman has kept his team in contention for 2nd place in the ACC.

yes he's 20. his birthday isn't till november i think, so i think there was some scheduling quirk about his year in school. it isn't unheard, dockery was a 20 year old frosh and so is boateng

Roy will get it because he has used his ability to coach to keep the team from falling into the bottom 6.

an example was the duke game, even though they lost when he took out hsi 5 starters and put in the reserves being down 17...that was pure guts and i know no other coach would have done that against duke and been able to take a 5 pt lead some 10 minutes later.

i wouldn't have a problem with leitao winning, but people are so caught up in "only 7 scholarship players" that they don't realize virginia has some decent talent. most teams only run 7 deep anyway. singletary is probably the best point guard in the league, while bannister and reynolds can go on a tear from deep. jason cain might possibly be the most improved player in the league. i applaud leitao for proving the predictors wrong, but its not like he's coaching a high school team

It's pre-ACC tourney.

I think Roy gets it if UNC comes in third. UVA coach gets it if UNC coach comes in fourth and they dont suck ass for the last two weeks. Herb gets it if UVA and UNC fuck up the last few weeks. Wildcard is K getting it. But I don't see why he should get it. They were picked to do this well and 16-0 isn't that amazing in a down ACC.

yea at the beginning of the year i said i would be surprised if they went undefeated

they had two of the best players in the country and more talent then anyone else

i didnt see anyway they could be beat

i was close, they have only one loss but then they have come close many times


but i dont think coach k deserves coah of the year for winning, if that was the case he would get it every year

^Eh...to an extent.

Reyshaun Terry is a top 50 player who is a junior. Byron Sanders was top 100, and Quentin Thomas was top 75/top 50.

That's three solid players that a lot of division one programs don't have. Then you add three McDAA's to that (Green/Frasor/Hansborough) plus another top 30 recruit in Ginyard (I can't remember if he was a McDAA or not)....then veteran Noel...and I don't think it's a stretch at all to have them back in the tourney. I know I had them preseaon 4th or 5th...which is automatic tourney in the NCAA (especially if you're UNC).

Roy's done a good job this year...but nothing close to spectacular.

Sendek doesn't stand much of a chance to win this year but, after being questioned by every media source in the nation, he shed the Hodge questions almost immediately, so he deserves a great amount of credit.

If Leitao doesn't get it, something is terribly wrong. I know Roy is doing a good job too but UNC was still picked to finish in the middle of the pack. UVA was probably picked to finish last yet they are 1 game back of UNC as we speak for fourth place.

Just reiterate's the fact that even UNC's garbage players are top-100 guys.

UNC is hardly scrambling for talent. Add in young talent, with a couple veterans, and a HOF coach...and I think you're smoking crack if you didn't think they'd have a good chance at the tourney this year.

Roy does not deserve coach of the year.
