I really don't know shit about bikes, I took motorcycle repair in HS for 3 years, but that is about it. I've never even rode a street bike before, but I've been wanting one for some time and figure why not now. I wanted to get a 600, but a few people told me that is prob a little much for me. What is involved with getting a motorcycle endorsement? Also what are some good starter bikes? I have around ~4k to spend. 2/18/2006 3:18:43 PM |

use some sense, and you'll be fine learning on a 600. you really can't go wrong with any of the japanese bikes in terms of reliability. personally, i would go with a yamaha yzf600 or honda cbr600. if you're going to be driving any distances at all, hondas are by far the most comfortable sport bike imo. i wouldn't get anything like ^^ unless you find one dirt cheap, they depreciate horribly and you'll grow out of it quickly.

for 4000, you can get a honda f2, f3, or f4 anywhere from early ninteys up to 2000+ models
to get a motorcycle endorsement, first you go get a motorcycle learners permit. that involves a written test on motorcycle safety and about $12. that's good for 1.5 years and you can do anything except carry a passenger. after you feel you are comfortable and skilled enough, you go take the road test which shows your ability to do turns, slaloms, low speed turns, emergency braking, and a few other things. 2/18/2006 4:02:58 PM |

sign up for a MSF basic riders course. Then just go get your endorsement. F4, F4i, R6, gsxr600s, zx6r, around '00 should be all within your price range. 2/18/2006 4:15:12 PM |

Less than 4k would be better, that is kind of a max I want to spend. I was looking at the honda CBR or yamaha YZF earlier. What mileage should I be looking for? at for what price? Is there certain things/areas I should pay attention to when looking at a bike? Me buying a motorcycle is like an asian woman buying a car, absolutely clueless. 2/18/2006 6:56:14 PM |

stfu jbaz. just bc you have it, dont try to live that shit up. any 600cc is not a starter bike that's in the super sport bike class.. dont try to make ur shit all better than the others, the are almost all alike.
get a 600cc for a starter bike. if u get the 500cc ur going to get tired of that shit in 2 weeks when you get used to the basics of motorcycling. get the 600 and wrap ur penis up with duct tape so you dont go killin urself. i started off with a 600cc and it was just fine for learning. 2/19/2006 2:06:49 AM |

Umm... Kyle, try to stay off the alcohol when posting. Its affecting your thinking process. Any bike could be a starter bike, just the learning curve would be higher to learn off of. Most modern sports bike aren't really ideal starter bikes as they have a nasty powerband, but if you hold off being speed happy, you can control it. I know a few guys who started out on brand new 04, 05 bikes and haven't fallen yet. But they have the maturity to know when they reached their limits.2/19/2006 11:32:31 AM |

^^riding and drinking is an extremely bad idea. ask my friend who rode my hawk and did that...im picking it up from paint today..
an f3 and f4 are both cbr's. jeff was correct..the rr's are not very good beginner bikes.. the f3 and f4 are a little less racey and will be a little bit more tame on the streets i guess you could say.
again if you want to drink and ride...it's a horrible idea please dont buy a bike if you're even thinking that you can do that.
^sorry i was drunk when i made that post last night

personally, I dont like v-twins. Not saying they aren't bad, I just don't like the mega vibrations when gunning it. besides, they don't have a powerband quite like an I-4. Its like it has a turbooooooooooooo! lol 2/20/2006 6:17:41 PM |
