I am thinking about taking DE classes over the summer? Has anyone taken any of these over the summer, and if so were they hard? Would you recommend taking them? 2/19/2006 3:16:25 PM |

Generally speaking, they're much easier
ENG 331 was *MUCH* easier than the full semester counterpart. IDS 201 and PHI 214 are two of the easiest A's you can get through DE.
Watch out for those that require you to come to campus for testing though, and whatever you do, don't take a History w/ Middleton or Khater. It's horrendous.
Also, do a search in Study Hall for "easy" and "easiest" and you'll be pleasantly surprised. 2/19/2006 3:56:35 PM |

I recommend it if it balances with whatever else you have going on in your life. I cooped and took a DE course over the summer and it worked out wonderfully. 27 lectures by video, ~9 lectures per exam. Usually woke up at 5am in the morning, drank my coffee, watched a lecture/took notes, and then got ready for my day as normal at 6am. Since I was in Charlotte, I had all three exams faxed and proctored at a local library since coming to campus was out of the question. Just have to schedule with library/instructor during the open exam window as to when to take it.

How difficult would it be to take a DE class from Japan?
Seriously. 2/20/2006 11:07:44 AM |

^ Depends. I would recommend the internet only courses if you do this. Last thing you need to do is accidentally leave a video/DVD in Japan

I strongly recommend against a "coming to campus" DE course. First, you're paying MORE for the stupid DE course to begin with. Having to come to campus multiple times honestly defeats the purpose. I've yet to figure out why all DE courses don't just use WebCT/Vista online tests instead of forcing people to come to campus/get a proctor. 2/20/2006 12:34:17 PM |

Not in summer. $146/credit hour for on campus courses, as opposed to $120/credit hour for DE. Both of these include fees. http://www7.acs.ncsu.edu/cashier/Tuition/summerund.asp http://distance.ncsu.edu/registration/fees.html2/20/2006 1:51:52 PM |

hmmm ... perhaps cheating?2/20/2006 3:07:45 PM |

^ Hmmm...perhaps a RANDOM BANK of questions can prevent that?
It's terribly easy. I've taken about 6 DE courses now, and for all the quizzes, the questions come from a bank of 100 or so. The chances of having the same questions come up for multiple folks is unlikely, and since it's TIMED, putting it all together and actually being successful at cheating is monumentally unlikely.
The real deal is teachers are too damn lazy to make a bank of questions to enter into WebCT. 2/20/2006 4:08:54 PM |
