The employeed discount is the actual cost of the product plus 5%. How much money off it is directly depends on how much margin they have on it. Its usually pretty decent on home theatre stuff. 2/19/2006 5:16:37 PM |

My sister works there but I am not done getting her to buy me shit yet.
I worked there for two years. The discount was awesome, manufacturers do promotions too where you can get some of their stuff below cost just for working there. I got a music keg for $250 below cost and a bunch of PC parts from intel (legit copy of XP pro, mainboard, processor, the bundle was worth $800 retail, i paid $175) it was all top of the line shit at the time too.
I really miss having the discount, don't miss all the bullshit involved in working there.

bacardi, i know the discounts are insane - and the $100 was a joke - i know sometimes they can even get $200-$500 off certain tvs and i am very willing to give that person $100+ for their time and effort.. I also know that they can only buy a certain # of X per year which is why I am offering cash -
Ronny - let me know how much you can get off a flat panel hdtv ranged between 600-900 and i will pay you accordingly 2/19/2006 7:12:43 PM |

Best Buy fires people for this all the time. I don't know why an employee would risk their job over a couple of hundred dollars. And management keeps a keen eye out for it. The Cary store just recently fired an employee for this. 2/19/2006 7:21:25 PM |

Yeah right before I quit I got a best buy card and went on a shopping spree. Took about a year to pay it off but it was worth it cuz of how cheap everything was. 2/19/2006 7:29:53 PM |

Just dont be an idiot about it and you wont get fired - its not hard to say your buying a tv for your family/self then sell it to me and make a few hundred dollars 2/19/2006 8:22:39 PM |

I think they actually keep track of what you buy. 2/19/2006 8:50:46 PM |

They review your purchase history regularly and it is all tracked under your employee number. 2/19/2006 9:01:49 PM |

^what he said. I have actually seen the sales manager pull up an employee's purchase history and pull them aside to grill them over it.
When you go in to buy something like a television in the store you work in, everyone watches you buy it. If you have a friend with you and/or pay for it in cash. . .red flags go up. If you claim you're buying it for your family, then the manager is going to wonder why you're buying them a present in February and why you're buying something (as a college student whose paycheck he is very familiar with) so expensive and nice for your family. And if you go to a store other than the one you work at, the purchases is immediately suspect. Some employees in other stores will actually call your home store to report you.
My fiance has worked with Best Buy for a long time now, and I work with Best Buy as a seasonal employee. I'm just saying, we've seen a lot of employees fired over dumb purchases. We've actually seen employees who did shady things in a smart way, eventually get caught and booted. 2/20/2006 11:20:20 AM |
