it was $550 new, plus $100 pedals and wheels, it's got some wear and tear, but it's a solid bike and $200 would be a steal. 2/22/2006 10:43:15 PM |

^I'd think again if I were you. That would be fucking HUGE. 18" would be more like it. 2/23/2006 10:09:40 AM |

was it fitted for you? and if so how tall are you (since 28" isn't likely) 2/23/2006 10:48:37 AM |

sorry to burst your bubble, but $200 is a good price for this bike. No one will pay much more than that for it. Look at similar bikes on ebay and you'll see how bikes depreciate in value (btw, the prices on there are often inflated by people bidding on their own items). 2/28/2006 9:58:20 PM |

I'd hardly consider an eBay price to be inflated.
Especially considering the shipping will be $50+ most of the time. 3/1/2006 12:35:53 AM |

^I'm talking about the price alone, not including shipping. Yeah, since ebay reaches a larger audience prices are going to be higher than he could get selling his bike locally (simple economics). Plus, there are people that cheat by having a friend bid up the price to artificially inflate it. I've seen plenty of bikes "sold" for a price much higher than what is reasonable only to magically reappear in another auction a week later. So you do have to take ebay with a grain of salt. 3/1/2006 9:39:24 AM |

How can you not include shipping? If you're the buyer, you have to factor in shipping to the cost of the bike. In other words, if you want to buy this bike on eBay you're going to pay the eBay price + shipping. There is no reason not to include shipping when determining the bike's value.
Furthermore, I'm saying eBay economics are not that simple. Some products sell higher on eBay than they would locally, but some sell lower. Most of those auctions that sell extremely low have a major flaw that is preventing the bidding such as poor (or no) pictures, poor description, shipping price unavailable, etc. If you're using those auctions as your baseline for what the bike is worth and you're not including the shipping price, then you have a price that does not reflect the real value of the bike.
You're denying the fact that there is value in the ability to see the product, in person, and take it for a test ride before even having to decide whether or not you want to buy it. Maybe that doesn't hold much value to you, but I can guarantee it will to others.
rotundapig, I suggest you post it on Craigslist if you haven't done so already. http://raleigh.craigslist.org/spo/3/1/2006 10:41:08 AM |
