Seems overly broad. I could see him patenting his implementation of rich media technology, but he can't patent the idea of rich media technology.

this guy worked for macromedia or founded it or something right?

so wasn't the whole purpose of them creating these things so that people could use them? i mean wtf. without being able to use the technologies free of charge, people most likeley not be using the macromedia authoring products...
