not the meow meow kind...

I put a new cat on my tacoma last year in may or so when i put a new header on (had gutted old cat and thought i'd get back in compliance),
well now its makin a rattling sound like its gone bad already or something.
What would make it not last any longer than that?? I got a Catco last time I believe and don't wanna waste money on a new one if its just gonna happen again. BTW no check engine lights or drastic changes in fuel economy.
Suggestions?

its got like 10+k miles on it and i bought it from summit, but don't have any proof of that.

could it just be a shitty cat? it was sposed to be some free-flow cat or something

In my ricer days I thought I pulled a smooth one when I took a long ass drill bit through my cat honeycomb, thinking a little more flow is better than nothing. That shit rattled itself to pieces within a week

So yeah.. probably some weak honeycomb structure to begin with

any loose crap still in the system? the catco ones are shit, the summit universal ones are only around $100 and hold up a lot better

[Edited on February 23, 2006 at 1:56 PM. Reason : call summit, they keep acounts on everyone, just give em your name or card #]

uhh have you checked all the hangers and bolts on the exhaust? Call Henry's Muffler, he can put it on the lift for you and check it out.

Catcos are probably not the best brand out there, but I had one on my fucking rotary engine with non functioning airpump for about 10k miles and it didn't fall apart, and Rx-7s are known for destroying cats.
