If you dont put NC State at the top of the list, you're retarded. Everything is in place for this school to have a great success. We have the history, we have the facilities, and most importantly, we have the fan support. Any coach that could get us into the picture with the likes of Duke and UConn would be immortalized.

NC State is probably the best job in the country unless the school is named UConn, UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA, Arizona, and maybe... (but doubtfully) Syracuse. (Forgive me if I missed any).... especially with the talent we have in place nowadays.


Coaches would give their left testicle to work in the ACC, much less at a Tobacco Road school who at one point was a powerhouse and has a few national championship banners to prove it...


So lemme get this straight. The purpose of this thread is to say that no coach would want the job becuase we are so hard on Herb? Are you fucking kidding me. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Herb has been here going on 11 years.... the only other two with a longer tenure than he have both won National Championships. He knew exactly what he was getting into when he took the job...

He gets plenty of credit and it's well deserved.
He gets plenty of criticism and it's well deserved.

That's the nature of the beast on Tobacco Road. Wake Forest is harder on their coaches than we are... and they have perennially been the doormat of the Big 4 and are dwarfed by the tradition of the other 3.

When Les Robinson, possibly the worst coach in our school's history, has a better record vs. UNC than our current coach does (And he did it against Dean, not Doherty!), there's a problem and any criticism is well-warranted. Give me a freakin break.

There's a difference between calling for someone's head and criticizing someone. I don't think we should fire Herb, but I don't think Herb is a very good coach, either. He's deserved more time, but considering our flaws haven't changed in 10 years, I highly doubt they will. It's a problem with the system... you cant rebound when everyone stands around at the 3 point line and you can't have an inside game when all our team is taught to do is jack up 3 pointers all game long.

In 10 years the guy hasn't hung an ACC championship banner, a regular season banner, or a Final Four banner. I realize where we started from when he got here, but that excuse is gone. When we can put together a string of shooting 50% from 3-point land (Becuase face it, we're live or die for the 3) and actually win an ACC championship or get somewhere in the tournament instead of having an NC State patented "off night".... i'll shut up.

One's in the top 5, taken his school to 6 NCAA's in 6 years...been to 3 sweet 16's and a Final Four in that span. He also had Clemson ranked in the top 5 before he left, in a helluva lot tougher ACC than this year is. (Considering there were 5 teams ranked in the top 5 at one point during the season)

The other is the youngest coach in NCAA history to reach 200 victories, shattering a record set by our very own Everett Case.... not to mention won everywhere he's been quickly and has 2 National Championships of his own (albeit in Div 2)


Both would jump at the chance to coach here (Or in Barnes case, would have a few years ago)

I never said Herb hasn't done a good job bringing us back to respectability.

I said Herb will never take us farther. With no inside game, no rebounding, and relying on the pointer like we do (45% of our shots), you're going nowhere. You can get lucky, but when it comes to a string of games (NCAA tournament), you can't expect to shoot 50% from 3 point land every night.

This is a recurring theme with his teams.

I've said it before. Herb Sendek = Dave Odom.

Barnes is quite clean as a coach.

Pearl, on the other hand, he's somewhat known as an underhanded coach. I think the whole scenario at Iowa was a little blown out of proportion, but he's got a reputation for it
