with all the talk about hawaii it got me thinking. my fiance and i will be getting married nov 4th. i am looking for where to go. she doesnt want to know and wants it to be a suprise. here are some stipulations....
1. gotta be clear water 2. no airplanes 3. no longer than 5 nights total 4. if its a cruise no longer than 3 nights because i dont wanna get bored on a damn ship
ok so i have thought about naples, key largo, and key west. we are not the biggest boozers in the world. so night life is not the most important thing in the world. i guess we would like beach activites, spa's, hiking, golf. anybody got any experences or ideas? 2/26/2006 1:49:13 PM |

Go to the Amalfi coastline.
It's south of Naples -- you take the line south to Sorrento, then you take a bus. It's the most gorgeous place I've ever been, and it's a great place to kick off your new marriage.
DO NOT -- I repeat -- DO NOT go to Naples. The countryside is beautiful, but the city itself is a fucking TOILET. It makes NYC look pristine.
Trust me on this one -- go to Amalfi. It's secluded, the water is beautiful -- the cliffsides and coastlines are breathtaking. 2/26/2006 2:01:37 PM |

I think that violates his "no airplanes" clause. 2/26/2006 2:03:05 PM |

I thought he meant no airplanes flying overhead -- ie a place that's a tourist location with an airport a few miles away.
He listed Naples as a potential place to go, and five nights in which to do it. This led me to believe they could fly to their location, just as long as there weren't airplanes all over the place. 2/26/2006 2:04:46 PM |

No airplane, 5 nights, and clear water make this tough. You are going to lose 2 days driving. That leaves 3 days wherever you end up. I'd head as far north on Florida's gulf side as you could. Of course in Nov, that might be cold. I'd love to go to Key West someday, but I'd want to go for the nightlife. 2/26/2006 2:06:20 PM |

So wait --
Were you expecting to get to Naples in five days without an airplane? 2/26/2006 2:07:08 PM |

If you don't want to fly, you should be careful spending a bunch of money and just going to Florida in November. I know it's supposed to be warm but if she's expecting some sort of exotic tropical location you are going to have to go further south than Florida....and in November, probably further south than that.
I went on a cruise last year around december and it was COLDER than N.C (left from southern FL)....even in Nassau. While it was a freak occurance, you don't want to expect really warm weather and be cold the whole time- especially if you are at a beach where a lot of the activities revolve around it being nice out. 2/26/2006 3:42:35 PM |

but freak weather could happen anywhere and the week could be wasted. in those rare cases you just have to improvise. if it gets cold like that . . . just spend a bunch of time indoors . 2/26/2006 5:12:36 PM |

^ I totally agree.......however if you are planning on doing all beach/hiking/golf/outside activities, they are really unenjoyable at anything under 60-70 degrees (IMO).
Maybe you could plan a small honeymoon trip for the winter to some cool location around here...and then REALLY suprise her with something come March/April.

If you buy the tickets now, Key West won't be too bad. I went last March and had a great time. We shopped and did the sites and loved it.
You will spend almost as much driving down on gas. Besides, it might kill your marriage to spend that much time driving down to the Keys. It will be warm also.
Charleston has some good cruises to look into.
If your willing to not be "warm" consider Charleston, Asheville, Pine Hurst, or Savannah. I love the Grove Park Inn and their Spa is awesome. 2/26/2006 7:03:26 PM |

In my opinion if you dont want to fly and you want to go in November then you prolly dont want to do a beach vacation. Anywhere that is within a 1 days drive is going to be prolly still cold unless you are want to drive like 15 hours in a day ( thats about how far key west is). Also, if you do want to drive that far your talking about 2000 miles about round trip which is going to be around 200 in gas depending on what you drive. Also thats 2,000 extra miles of maintence to your car ( tires, oil changes) and decrease the value of your car. If your car is not fairly new long trips on interstates are the hardest on cars as well.
I would personally recommend trying something else such as a romantic stay at a ski resort. They have awesome spa's and it really is alot of fun. Plus you can get a hot tub in your room at most which is romantic. Then in the summer you could go to the beach to celebrate your 6 month anniversery of being married. If you have never been skiing it really is alot of fun and you can pick it up after just a couple of hours of lessons. 2/26/2006 7:45:01 PM |

I was engaged in key west in August. Keep in mind that yes there is great nightlife, but there is pretty much no beach. What they call a beach has no tidal action and smells like dead fish year round. 2/26/2006 8:56:37 PM |

dude, what part of no flying is so hard to understand. i put 58k miles on my tahoe this year with work. i dont think mileage or depreciation is something i am worried about. also interstate miles for the record are easier on your car the everyday stop and go driving.
NO FLYING
my fiance wont fly. i wont fight it. and i booked our place today anyway. we are doing the 3 day package twice. so it will be 6 days. http://cheeca.rockresorts.com/index.asp its the cloud 999 package. she can get spa'd up all week and i will fish all week. perfect!2/26/2006 10:55:56 PM |

Fishing sounds more like a vacation than a honeymoon. You can have as many vacations in your life as you want and can afford with or without your wife. You (hopefully) only get one honeymoon in your life. All I'm saying is make sure your wife is 100% OK with you leaving her to go fishing (unless you're taking her with you) or you might be in the dog house before you even get back from the honeymoon. 2/27/2006 12:02:43 AM |

considering I told her to pick a place where I could fish otherwise I not going, i'm reasonably certain she's ok with it.
plus she sees firsthand my obsession with hunting, 20-25 times in dec/jan, plus the other months. and she knows i'm the same way with fishing. but I imagine she's going with me. she's never been flats fishing. probably hasnt even seen a bonefish or a permit.
I dont do spas, or hikes, or other touristy things like that. snorkeling, sailing, crap like that i cant stand i dont like just sitting on a beach either. 2/27/2006 12:10:42 AM |

considering that she was the one that sugggested finding a place where we both can go do something by ourselves for a day to get some alone time i am willing to bet she will be ok with it. i mean having your head up somes ass for 6 days will prob not be much fun for them either.2/27/2006 12:26:18 AM |

This sounds like more than one day. And if that's your idea of a honeymoon I have three words for you: CALL IT OFF!!! If you can't spend six whole days with a person you're planning to spend your entire life with, it sounds like your the one that needs to grow a pair and truly analyze your relationship before you both get in over your head.2/27/2006 5:10:09 PM |

If you want more to do than drink, try http://www.hawkscay.com/. It's in Marathon, and you could spend a day in Key West if you wanted. Probably the best you will find within driving distance. 2/27/2006 8:40:00 PM |

If you'd like to go to Hawaii but at a more affordable price, go to Costa Rica
its beautiful, tropical, has the volcanic stuff, black sand beaches, crystal clear water, rainforests, exotic wildlife, and great people
stay away from large cities and go all inclusive....there are some affordable and nice resorts on the coast 2/28/2006 12:51:08 AM |
