$8800

170k

dinan chip
valve springs and retainers
aluminum h20 pump
new radiator
new front struts
records since new

basically all the problem spots with e36 have been fixed

abs light is on...

is it worth that much money?

meh.

thats not nearly all the problem spots at 170k. especially considering the airbag light is on. maybe if you want a project. if still original, itll likely need new control arms, bushings, rear shock mounts, shocks, tstat housing, maybe water pump (you want the new composite one, not the aluminum one), power steering hoses, plugs, belts, hoses... and its getting to be clutch time as well.. does it leak? the tranny rear seal and selector shaft seal like to leak at that age.

id def do a compression check.. and the fact it was chipped is a turn off to me.

but why get an M3 if youre too cool to autox and too broke to track?

it's a decent price for the year and mileage. but like dan said you'll probably have to put some money into it to get it back to 100%. if compression test checks out ok then you'll probably be fine.

It sounds like something you would buy if you want it...Not if you need it.

It could be a fun car for the money, but if you're going to be really impacted by sudden loss of it or a big repair bill then go with something else...There are a lot of good cars out there for $9k.

oh and as far as the ABS light being on...you can have that reset at the dealer for $$$ or from a friend with the right tool for free.

i bought the car. $8500

it's a good price for the mileage. should pick it up this weekend.

i'll bother all you M3 owners with further questions later on. thanks for the help.

the thing is yeah you can find nice 97+ obd2 with decent miles such as 70k, but it wont be less than 15,000. 7k difference is like another car. a decent 2000 civic

170k isn't shit for a BMW inline six (or the rest of the car). It's not uncommon to see completely original BMW inline 6s club racing with over 200k miles, and racing is a lot harder on the engine than *most street driving. I bought mine with 128k, has 137k miles now (two track days so far, a few road trips, and some snow drifting in the biggest snow storm of the northeast in a while!), and trying to get into it's first race in just over 2 weeks. Look over the car, sure, but you should be just fine.
