92 Chevy K2500 Bought this from the original owner . 454 auto w O/D,full floating 14 bolt w/3.73 open diff. 121,000 miles It was up north for 3 years when he purchased it new to pull his horse trailer. The guy used to own a tire store in Cary and was pretty anal about the maintence of it. First plan is to pressure wash off what is left of the paint on it, fix the cab corners and hope that there isnt too much rust under the fender flairs and running boards. Damn thing is so long it is like riding in a limo.

Yeah and thanks Weeeees.. I looked under it and amaizingly enough its solid. There is a matching hole on the otherside of the cab. I think when they put the running boards on they fucked something up. Also the right front fender has a suspious looking spot. I found the patch panels for $46 a piece and a fender is $55. My roommate is going to do all the metal work and a friend is going to spray it. Should be a fun quick fixer upper.

you can buy the cab corners from Certifit for $18/each. the rusting in that location is normal.

I called them and they didnt have the extended cab ones. Can you get a P/N for me? They seem to take bodyshops folk a bit more seriously than the shadetree crowd. Thanks Dave

i guess they don't sell them for ext. cabs then. i just have a standard cab. you rust doesn't look like it goes much further than what my cab corner covers anyway. just get ones for the standard cab and weld them in.

I had a 2500 back in the 90's. Can't really say I liked that truck, even though I basically lived out of it. Shittiest transmissions on the planet, not to mention the interior fell completely apart.

[Edited on March 2, 2006 at 10:39 PM. Reason : of course they were better than fords or dodges in '92]

Tranny was replaced under warranty @35k. It has a huge by large tranny cooler with an electric fan on it. The owner had it serviced every 20k. the interior is nice but could use a good cleaning. Its a big step up from my 76 beater. This one is 4X4,cold A/C and more interior room. Gotta get it turned around quick though.

I only drive it about 1000 miles a year so it shouldnt hurt too bad. Not everyone can be a diesel hero.

Here I thought I would be saving money over a gas burner...but with the price of diesel, it's six of one, a half dozen of the other.

What kind of milage is the Dodge giving you so far? The previous owner of mine swore it got 14 on the highway

I'm getting about 17-18. One prob is that I don't have overdrive or a locking TC. Mileage stays roughly the same (maybe falls off somewhat) all the way up to its max speed of 75mph.

I haven't turned up the pump yet, and I don't know if I want to, being that the fucker is pretty old. I don't need all that, and besides, the Bosch VE pump is only good to 225hp...65 more than stock.

I have no clue if it's rolled once or twice. Only has a five digit (well six, counting tenths) odometer.

But it says 32k right now.

As far as I can tell, the engine uses very little if any oil.

That's what I'm talking about. Figure a new trans ever 40k. Of course, I pulled a pretty heavy load with mine.

Overall it was a decent truck I guess. Drove pretty well.

Sheetmetal ordered, Im not scared of the tranny falling out. Even if it starts to give me trouble I can have my roommate rebuild it. It does have a fithwheel hitch in. Just makes ya wanna go pull something big...um on second thought no it doesnt.

Sheetmetal came today. Looks like pretty nice stuff for $43 a side

Got em from this place http://www.rustrepair.com/repair_panels/onlinecat.htm?r=ru&p=sm-chev.pu (Mill Supply Inc.) Made in China but heavy gauge stuff. $13 bucks to ship em from Ohio. Let the hacking begin

is that the same 454 that came in the 454 SS 1500 trucks? if so that thing has an obnoxious amount of tourque, and the 454 SS trucks were just bare bones, so it was a decently quick truck for its time, probably underrated on the power output.

No mine is the roller motor. 454 SS trucks arent that fast Mid 14s at best.(my neighbor has a 90) Im not worried about it being "quick".....it is afterall a 5500 lb 4WD truck.

13.5 is not really that bad for a heavy duty truck with a big-block. I've had half ton trucks that got that with small blocks.
