Supporters of the war usually claim that the invasion and occupation of Iraq has made things better than they were under Saddam, at least from the standpoint of human rights. But even this seems questionable.
Quote : | " HUMAN rights abuses in Iraq were as bad now as under former dictator Saddam Hussein, former United Nations official John Pace said yesterday.
Mr Pace, who last month left his post as director of the human rights office at the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, said the level of extra-judicial executions and torture was soaring.
Morgue workers were being threatened by both government-backed militia and insurgents not to properly investigate deaths.
"Under Saddam, if you agreed to forgo your basic right to freedom of expression and thought, you were physically more or less OK," Mr Pace said in Sydney.
"But now, no. Here, you have a primitive, chaotic situation where anybody can do anything they want to anyone."
He said the scale of atrocity under Saddam was "daunting", but now no one was safe from abuse, not even Sunni Muslims and members of Saddam's Ba'ath Party.
"It extends over a much wider section of the population than it did under Saddam," he added." |

Nice war you've got there, Mr. Bush. And remember: "Bring 'em on!"

so are you trying to say that bad things happen more often, or that they are happening in the same amounts, but to more types of people, or are you saying that saddam was actually a pretty cool dude? 3/2/2006 6:12:56 PM |

hahahahaha Most people knew that quote by heart loooooong before RATM was even formed. Way to show your age. That's like arguing to someone that the only reason they have heard Led Zeppelin's "Rock n' Roll" is because of the Cadillac commercial.
The only thing you are effectively saying with that statement is what you think of the quote, not what someone else thinks. And I guess the quote is nullllllllllllllified!!!!!!!!!! because a band decided to commercialize it? I hope Linkin Park doesn't put "Give me Liberty or give me death" on a t-shirt. I'd hate for the up and coming generation to start giving them credit for that one.
Nice try though.3/3/2006 7:24:10 AM |
