I'm building a brand new desktop pc from scratch, and here's what I have so far:

ASUS P5P800-SE ATX Motherboard with AGP8X and 4 PCI slots

Bio 10-Bay ATX Case w/ 450W Power Supply

ATI All-In-Wonder 7500 video card

512 MB DDR DIMM

Maxtor 40-GB Harddrive

Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Microsoft Optical Elite Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

LG DVD Multidrive

HP CD-RW drive


I haven't ordered the processor yet, but I'm looking at a Pentium 4 Socket 775 2.66 GHz.
Any other suggestions guys?

i don't know much about this myself (i just made a thread very similar to this one), but i think it'd help if you said what you wanted to use this computer for.

if people knew what you were trying to get out of the pc, and what amount of $$$ you're wanting to put into it, they can point you in the right direction for what parts to get.

I'm going to get a bigger hard drive and more memory later on. I really just needed the bigger case so I could expand further. Plus, the mobo I have supports dual-cores so I can upgrade it later. I just wanted something that will run Heroes 5, Dungeon Seige 2, World of Warcraft, Pirates!, and other games like those....

It has 10 bays: 4 5.25" bays, 2 3.5" floppy bays, and 4 3.5" hard drive bays...so hopefully plenty of room for expansion....

the specs you listed won't run WoW. the rest of the games i'm not sure about, but if you got something that ran WoW well, it'd probably run the others as well.

At what resolution? What you've got is going to be choppy at anything but the lowest res/detail.

How much are you trying to spend and what are the things you need exactly. (IE full ATX case, ability to go to a dual core, yada yada)

For WOW I'd look into a gb of ram and a 6600GT ($250 total)

The board has an AGP slot, so I have to get an AGP Graphics card. I have three, and only two of them are recent buys. One is the AIW, and I also have an EVGA Geforce 4000(?) that are both AGP. It has four DDR DIMM slots for upgrade as well. What's the best buy on a graphics card that will fit what I need?

Things left to buy:
-Graphics Card
-DDR DIMM Memory
-Socket 775 Pentium 4 Processor
-Additional Harddrive (probably 250GB)

I'm also open to other suggestions for upgrades.

Okay, if you're using parts from a stockpile or other PCs at home, you're not building a new PC from scratch.



I'd reccomend an AMD setup, if you havent bought anything yet.

WoW generally runs pretty well, but you could definitely do better.

y would buy a 940 pin? they are 130nm cores and they run hot as shit. 939 is much better alternative and provide better performance. Most 940s are opterons and if ur not running servers then its pretty much useless.

If u wanna go intel then the lga 775 dual core is prob a good choice. i'm not much of an intel guy

Y are u going w/ agp? its dying or dead technology. think PCI-E

1gb as been the standard lately and they are moving towards 2gb ddr2

this is def a low end system. I don't know ur application for this rig. def nothing too intensive obvious

BEST ADVICE: BUY A DELL.
they are fairly cheap the from the components you listed you could prob get a step up from that from Dell for cheaper
change out the keyboard/mouse/speakers and maybe a new monitor

sry don't much about intel. i didn't know they made 940 intel. it confused me w/ the AMD 940s

yeh if ur build a computer, BUILD A COMPUTER. don't short yourself w/ ur older parts. get some new stuff and actually enjoy the new tech that has come out.

ok. Budget of $600. I want it to be able to run World of Warcraft (because if it can run it, it should run everything else).

^ i wouldn't go w/ 2 6600 cuz u just buy the better card and it would be greater than 2 6600s.

sli and crossfire are reserved for the best of the best like 2 7800gtx 512mb or 2 x1900xtx. In lower cards you could just buy the next step up and perform better then the 2 lower cards. SLI and crossfire should not be an upgrade path either for the same reason. just buy the better card

incorrect, it will probably play anything else that you will be using on it. but it will not play bf2 very well
