I've used it. It works. Someone bid with like 3 seconds left, I beat them by a second.

you could just manually type it in with 10 secs or less with few problems. if you do your max bid you really cant lose (either they outpay you or you win, same as with .1 secs left).

[Edited on March 2, 2006 at 10:15 PM. Reason : seems pointless to pay someone else to snipe it.]

you cant bid on it

ive used auction sentry and it works perfectly.

and it is useful, without it you put your max bid in, and someone will beat it by like 50 cents and win.

with it that guy might not make that last minute high bid cause he wont see it coming.

anyone can snipe at the last secong, wether youre using software or not. using software isn't a bitch move, its a smart move. it means you dont have to hover over your pc waiting for the auction to win. its convienence, that you pay for.

^If you put in your max bid and someone bids more than you (even if it is only $.50) then what is the problem? If you were willing to pay that extra $.50 then you didn't put in your max bid, now did you? Ebay would work better if people actually put in the maximum amount they were willing to pay and walked away.

^^^, no the rule should be if there is a bid on an item than the auction should be extended for another 60 seconds. That way all this gay ass sniping wouldn't work at all. The auction shouldn't end unless everyone that is interested gets a chance to bid on it (assuming they didn't put in the max amount they were willing to pay anyways)

haha auction sniping pwns. it's not so much that you aren't willing to pay more, it's that you are bidding at the last second and everyone else doesn't have the chance to bid more. only idiots put their maximum price into ebay's system... if you are willing to pay a flat price for an item you should not be using ebay to get it. it's all about the steals

because if someone doesn't SEE your max bid then they won't have a chance to bid over it in the last second. but the real reason to use one is convienance. i don't like beig tied to my compujter and thats exactly what an auction does.

well we may be idiots for putting our maximum price in at first
but this sniping makes it bad for sellers and buyers
its hard to trust ebay when you've had the highest bid on an item for 7 days and someone outbids you in the last 3 seconds.
you'd never go back to ebay after that.

^^ not all auctions that I've bidded in are like that, especially if you're bidding on something not very people would really need.

However, in every item that i've sold, there was always sniping

I didn't see the replies to this thread until now, but can someone explain to me why...

I guess it really comes down to if you're talking about really wanting to win an auction or if you're talking about trying save a buck or two and hope that your sniping software is better than the other guy's.

The simple fact is if an auction ends and you are mad because someone sniped you at the last second and beat you by $.50, you could have solved that by putting in your max amount. And I don't see the difference between doing that with 2 minutes left or 2 days. The argument about being able to see the max bid is BS because you can't tell what someones high bid is with eBay anyways.

Why do some people get all excited when they "win" an auction on ebay? Sure you win the auction but you purchase the item. The funny thing is when some people view it as a contest and they bid more than what the item is worth just to "win". It's not a lottery folks. You don't win a prize. You purchase an item.

if someone "beat" you by $.50, they could've (read: probably) beat you by 5 or 10 dollars or maybe even more. When someone enters a snipe bid, they put in their maximum price, then win by proxy-bidding the minimum over your maximum.
entering your bid early in an auction encourages: 1. idiots entering the minimum bid without surpassing your max - increasing your cost for no reason; 2. bid wars - people wanting the thrill of a win driving your cost up (especially if you start counter-bidding); and 3. snipers - if I see an early bid on something, I know its likely that the bidder wont be watching it at the end - making it an easy snipe.

sniping is fine b/c they were willing to pay more than you in the first place.

See, I wouldn't have a problem if I lost an auction because someone was willing to pay more than me if they outbid me with 2 days or 2 seconds left. Being outbid is outbid. But I'm still not convinced that sniping gives you any sort of advantage at all if you're serious about winning an auction.

agreed, but if you put your max bid in with 1 min or less it isnt really much of a big deal unless it is 100 ppl looking at it. you dont need software to get it in the last 1/4 second as opposed to the last 5-10.

the only reason to do it is convenience.
