I'm getting ready to watch "Walk the Line" and I love this song... the only other Johnny Cash I've heard is the NIN cover of "Hurt."
Cash fans what are the other greatest hits? 3/4/2006 1:26:00 AM |

um every song he has ever made.
ok seriously, folsom prison blues, cocaine blues, I walk the line, jackson, a boy named sue, and the list goes on and on and on.
too many to name.
just get one of his cds. I reeally like his 1st American Recordings cd's with Rick Rubin.

Man In Black
I Still Miss Someone (Robert Earl Keen does a good cover of it, too)
Folsom Prison Blues (...shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die...
Sunday Morning Coming Down
Don't Take Your Guns To Town
A Boy Named Sue
I Walk the Line
Ballad of Ira Hayes (Ira Hayes was one of the Marines who raised the flag on Iwo Jima, who never really psychologically recovered from the combat)
Johnny Cash and Kris Kristopherson do a really good cover of Steve Earle's Devil's Right Hand, too.

"I shot a man just to watch him die..."
I've heard that referenced as a defense of hip-hop violence... somehow he's got a little more style. 3/4/2006 1:59:03 AM |

Not really.
I mean, yeah, there's plenty of rap that deals badly with shit like that.
But it's not like there's never since been a good lyric about killing a man.

check out "give my love to rose" and "tennessee stud" and "the man who couldn't cry" and "delia's gone" and "the beast in me" and "why me lord" and "let the train blow the whistle" and "down there by the train." pretty much everything on his American Recordings CD.
I heard the beast in me for the first time after I saw the movie and I was like haha and I kept thinkin back to the movie. 3/4/2006 2:14:13 AM |

cash is at his best in live recordings. there's just something missing from his older studio stuff that appears in his live recordings. that being said, buy:
Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison Johnny Cash at San Quentin
you will not regret it.
@ SQ along with "eat a peach" and "led zeppelin" I are my favorite albums of all time. every song on that album is spectacular and it includes JC talking with the crowd (if you get the remastered version) which can be really funny.
after you buy, listen to, and fall in love with @SQ you'll just have to have more so you'll buy @FP which has some great songs (i just prefer @SQ). 3/4/2006 11:06:24 AM |

^In no way did I imply that... it's an awesome song, ppl need to STFU and hip hop needs some style and talent in my opinion.
I was just mentioning it. 3/4/2006 9:29:05 PM |

I'll agree with everyone else and recommend the prison albums.
As for songs I enjoy:
Folsom Prison Blues San Quentin A Boy Named Sue Dark as the Dungeon Worried Man I Got Stripes Cocaine Blues The Long Black Veil Jackson I Walk The Line I Still Miss Someone Don't Take Your Guns to Town Drive On
As for the voices in the flick, they're pretty good. Not dead on, but reasonable enough to continue the illusion created by excellent acting. Hell, Reese is a better singer than June ever was.
