GoogleEarth-0762

that's the name of the file.
I was attempting to install the newer version of Google Earth, when it installation fucked up, and I had to exit out of it. well, it left this file on my desktop, and whenever i try to delete it, it says

"Cannot delete GoogleEarth0762: It is being used by another person or program.
Close any programs that might be using the file and try again."

I don't know of any program open that is using that damn file... how can i get rid of it?

There's also a program you could do this with. It's called Move On Boot.

I used it to delete some of the files I couldn't get rid of.

eh, no sense in installing a program when the command line turns out to be that easy to do.

In linux as uid 0 ... can cause you to look for a new job.

Smath ... worst comes to worst in the future, boot off the Windows XP CD and navigate to whatever folder the file needs to be deleted from. This will work 95% of the time. The other 5% requires NTFS for Dos (from bootdisk.com) or something similar.

rm -rf

-r = recursive, goes as deep as the dirs/files go where you try and delete
-f = force, never asks, just does it no matter what

^ ugh yeah. this has happened to me numerous times. even worse than what Smath74 is talking about is when the icon is on your desktop but not at the same time. like when you go to delete it, it says the file simply does not exist. im like "wtf mate?!? if it doesnt exist then why the fuk is it on my desktop?"
