sry DirtyGreek I know you were so excited about this station, but the fact of the matter is, liberals suck at talk radio and an audience can't be bought with all the liberal money in the world.
http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/60684.htm
Quote : | "AIR America is close to losing its New York flagship station - knocking Al Franken and his liberal colleagues off the air on their second anniversary.
The network has a two-year lease with WLIB (AM 1190) that is reportedly set to expire April 1 - and at least one reliable report says it is "extremely likely" the deal will not be renewed.
Losing its New York outlet would be a serious blow to the fledgling liberal radio network. "Radio Equalizer" blogger Brian Maloney - who blew the whistle on questionable loans to the lefty network last year - published the first report that WLIB was on the verge of evicting Air America some time soon.
Air America's options for a new home are not promising. All of the city's other strong-signal stations are spoken for, leaving only weak-signal "fringe" stations that do not cover the entire city and suburbs. " |
Once again proving that liberals should never be entrusted with the care of any business.3/7/2006 10:40:07 AM |

yes
it has nothing to do with inability to get stations(its not like they're just freely handing airwaves out), and having bad deals on the stations they do have
and it has nothing to do with the demographics of talk radio
it has everything to do with the way they named their programs
seriously enjoy this "victory"
until you complain about the liberal media again
and you have to remember WE'VE STILL GOT EVERY OTHER FORM OF MEDIA, save for fox news

Air America was doomed from the start because liberals tend to prefer intelligent discussion (NPR) over punditry?

Almost everyone I know listens to NPR, Republican and Democrat alike. It's just good radio. It's amusing that people in here think that listening to NPR somehow makes them more intelligent. It's equally ignorant to believe that only liberals listen to NPR.3/7/2006 11:22:16 PM |

I love NPR. It's the best comedy show on the radio. Their smug, BBC-wannabe vocal tones, the banjo bluegrass music they play to show everyone they're just-plain-folks, Their inability to tell Diane Rehm that she no longer has a pleasent voice for the radio, the left-wing game shows, the girl who announces herself as Meee-shell Norris, the commercials that they try desperately to make sound like announcements, and the endless hawking of tote-bags and Gordon Lightfoot CDs during constant pledge drives.
It keeps me laughing all day. I'm almost in favor of continuing the tax-support. 3/8/2006 1:25:08 AM |

Quote : | "Left-leaning new media has hit turbulence at the marketplace, newly released stats show.
A book hyped by major media as documenting a progressive revolution of "blogs" and political power, DAILY KOS 'CRASHING THE GATE,' has sold only 3,630 copies since its release last month, according to NIELSEN's BOOKSCAN.
[NIELSEN claims only 2,062 copies of DAILY KOS have been purchased at the retail level; the rest coming through 'discount' outlets.]
Meanwhile, the just released radio Winter Book [Jan-Mar 2006] from ARBITRON shows AIR AMERICA in New York City losing more than a third of its audience -- in the past year!
Among all listeners 12+, it was a race to the bottom for AIR AMERICA and WLIB as mid-days went from a 1.6 share during winter 2005 to a 1.0 share winter 2006.
During PM drive, host Randi Rhodes plunged to 27,900 listeners every quarter hour, finishing 25th place in her time slot, down from 60,900 listeners every quarter hour in the fall.
A network source says the radio ratings released today do not reflect the overall growth of the broadcast.
"The demos are better, and listeners trust AIR AMERICA to give them the real truth on issues and the Bush presidency," says the insider.

btw, to provide some balance to the dailykos claim:
Quote : | "Bookscan just surveys a sampling of big box retailers, so it's not a complete market analysis. Merely a snapshot of major retailers (and not even all of them). And it absolutely fails to capture online sales.
So let's see. The book has been out three weeks. It has sold 5,100 copies of the special edition and 3,630 according to Drudge (if he can be trusted) in a sampling of the big box bookstores.
That's 8,730 right there. Now throw in the indy bookstores (we've probably sold close to 1,000 just in the book signing events I've attended), and we're getting close to 10,000.
Then there's the online retailers. Currently, CTG is ranked #25 on Amazon.com, and is ranked #5 in the politics category. Through the links at the top of the this page alone I've sold 700 copies of CTG.
So to recap -- top ranking on Amazon, over 10,000 copies sold in three weeks the book has been out. Distributors have ordered 50,000 copies of the book, which has gone through three printings already (our small publisher can't afford to do large first printings). And we're just halfway through our book tour.
And this is somehow supposed to be a failure? " |
