Technical Assistant – AllCampus Network

This position will assist in maintaining card readers and cash register equipment around the campus. Hours are flexible around class schedules. Typical duties would include checking the status of campus card readers via software, visiting buildings with off line equipment, troubleshooting the off line condition, correcting the off line situation by restarting the equipment, installing replacement equipment or correcting cabling problems, and shipping out failed equipment for repair. Some basic desktop PC support may be involved, too (installing printers, etc).

Employment can continue into the summer if desired, including responsibility for ID card production at orientation.

This position requires knowledge of use of a pc, how to troubleshoot PC problems and correct them, TCPIP networking fundamentals, use of basic hand tools, including cable crimpers, and the ability to follow simple wiring diagrams for communications cabling.

The individual should be service oriented and able to work independently to meet defined goals for uptime of equipment. A knack for electronics is a good foundation, and being tenacious about resolving problems with equipment is a must. Must be trustworthy to access sensitive software applications and restricted areas. A background check may be conducted.

The pay is $10 per hour, plus meals on campus when on duty. Former employees in this position have worked two or more years, until graduation.

Interested persons should apply at the AllCampus Network service counter in the West Dunn Building at the corner of Dan Allen Drive and Thurman Drive.

I would expect around 20 hours a week, more if possible. I can keep someone busy for as many hours as can be worked, but the tasks required may go a little broader past 20 hours.
