Ford Nucleon
The Ford Nucleon was a nuclear-powered concept car developed by Ford Motor Company in 1958. The car did not have an internal-combustion engine, rather, it was powered by a small nuclear reactor in the trunk of the car. The nuclear reactor used fuel that could be swapped out, and one load of nuclear fuel could purportedly power the car for 5000 miles. The car was never built and never went into production, but it remains an icon of the Atomic Age in the 1950s. 3/8/2006 8:50:12 PM |

How exactly did they convert the nuclear energy to mechanical energy... nuclear power plants do it by steam->turbine-> electricity.
This thing would have had to have either an electric or steam engine, or used a nuclear power source like in the early space-probes (I think they used the decaying neutrons colliding with some material to generate electricity). 3/9/2006 9:32:55 PM |

huh? nuclear doesn't mean forever. ever heard of the spent fuel rod's from nuclear power plants?
Hell, look at nuclear navy ships. The fuel in them only lasts for about 25 years, and that contains a lot more "fuel"
