Why is the rhyme scheme in rap retarded nowadays?

It seems that in the 80s and early 90s rap was either in ABAB or AABB scheme which seems lyrically correct and sounded good.

Nowadays this is what I hear:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.... BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

Why did this happen? Who started this? And when will it stop?

Here are some examples of what I'm talking about:

Beastie Boys - Intergalactic
Quote :
"Jazz and Awol that's our team
Step inside the party disrupt the whole scene
When it comes to beats well I'm a fiend
I like my sugar with coffee and cream
Got to keep it going keep it going full steam
Too sweet to be sour too nice to be mean
On the tough guy style I'm not too keen
To try to change the world I will plot and scheme
Mario C likes to keep it clean
Gonna shine like a sunbeam
Keep on rapping cause that's my dream
Got an A from Moe Dee for sticking to themes
When it comes to envy y'all is green
Jealous of the rhyme and the rhyme routine"

its a lot harder to rhyme something 20 times than just 2

a whole verse based on one sound is much better than swtiching every couple lines, IMO

seriously though, nowadays there are a lot more rhyme schemes in popular songs which makes it more interesting. ABAB or AABB gets boring.

i like things such as AAAAAABBA and whatnot.

Internal rhyme scheme has always been more interesting than couplets.

Its called different flows...if everyone rhymed in the ABAB or AABB everyone would sound the same.

the oh shit moments usually tend to be from punchlines regardless of scheme

well

the "oh shit" moments for me come from internal word play that is just spot on

btw, some guys have always done this like you pointed out with the Beastie Boys, but if you're looking for someone to blame for the resurgence in that rhyme scheme's popularity, you can point to Ludacris.

Varying internal rhyme and changing rhyming patterns is much more challenging and interesting to the ear, I think. I get bored with AABB. The same holds true for throwing in feminine rhyme and half rhyme.
