When I say cheap, I mean extremely cheap. My husband and I need a second car that is going to travel appx 10 miles a day to take my husband to work. Reliability is a plus, but we are looking for something that may have problems that we can fix. We want an extreme beater that isn't going to cost over $100. It doesn't matter what kind of problems it has, as long as it is fixable. We can't really afford to put a lot of money into a car right now, so if we could buy it and fix it as we get the money, that would be a plus (thus why we are looking for such a cheap car). Obviously, looks do not matter at all. We only need this car to work for a few months until we can get something more decent.

Anyone have something like this hanging around or does anybody know anywhere we could get something like this?

go to goodwill/salvation army. you can generally get a road worthy car for 250-400 bucks. should be perfect for what you need.

just a little bit of advice, you are MUCH MUCH MUCH better off buying a 500-1000 dollar car that is in good mechanical shape, than trying to make a 100 dollar car driveable.

that is completely untrue. we bought a 88 accord from a junkyard one time for $50. All we had to do was put the car back together. (the tranny, cv axles, suspension were all in the trunk, along with some misc other parts)

oh, and i think we had to gank some seats from another one for it.

somebody my bf works with had a 2000 honda they just gave away to someone needy, simply because it was just sitting there, not being used. there are people who want to help someone who really needs it.

^^^mustang is sold, and i the trooper really isn't good for a daily driver. cadillac would be perfect, it's in excellent running/driving condition. let me know.

our price range increased that quickly because my father-in-law is going to loan us $texas...

anyway...were interested in the cadillac or the s10...we would like to hear more about the corolla, we may be interested and if it's what were looking for, we may be able to wait for it.

not to rag on caddys, but they are gas guzzlers (you are probably looking at 14 mpg max on a 10mi round trip daily and on premium gas) and getting anything fixed that has the name cadillac means double the price (they rack up the price of parts and labor). found this out when i was having to drive my grandfather's cadillac while my car was being fixed after i was rearended.
they are comfy cars, but for economy, you can do much better.
just my $0.02

^uh, you have no clue what you're talking about. parts for older cadillacs are just as cheap as any other mainstream domestic car. labor is no more either, there's nothing complicated or out of the ordinary about servicing/repairing them. sure, if you take it to the dealer prices are going to be more, but that's true of any vehicle.

i drive the car ~25-30 miles back and forth to work each day. partially highway, mostly city type driving. i average 17-18mpg. on trips, it easily gets 22-23 at ~75mph. strictly city driving it gets 14-15. it also does NOT require premium, 87 or 89 is just fine.

^^if you interested, drop me a pm with your email and i'll send pics. you certainly can find cars that will be more efficient on gas, but you'll be hard pressed to find anything in this good of shape for the price. not to mention options, comfort, etc.

i have a 93 Plymouth Duster that i'm interested in selling.
i've had it since i was 16. so almost 8 yrs.

decent shape. MANY parts replaced in last year or so. Starter, alternator, water pump, belts, fans, etc
i just put a new battery in it and registered /insured it last week and its running great. (cost me $100 for registration and an $80 battery)
i've replaced so much i cant think of anything else that could possibly go on it.

130 K ( i think) - alot of highway miles between here and CT
body is in very good condition.
interior is in good condition. (headliner is missing but no big deal)
CD player, Cruise, etc..
V6 engine
Automatic

KBB lists it for $700
I'd take $500 for it.

but not any less considering i just put more $ into it and i'd rather keep it around as a second/emergency vehicle.

oh and my bf is selling his 97 Cadillac STS - green
body is in perfect condition

engine is shot

rims alone are worth $2000
and the body is gorgeous

if you could put another engine in it or have the patience to take this one apart and fix it its worth it

he's looking for $2000 for it

im sure that you have thought about it, but why don't you just use that money as a down payment on a new car (not necessarily new...you know what i mean). It will save you the money in the long run. Maybe a Hyundai or something like that would allow 100 a month payments.
