I know a few care about this besides me. Vinylbandit, where are you?

First race today in Bahrain. Scott Speed, the first American in Formula One in 13 years finished in 13th place. Not bad considering he's in the former Minardi (now called Toro Rosso) and he did nothing stupid. Plus, he beat the overrated Ralf Schumacher. The Toyotas were terrible. It looks like Midland and Super Aguri will be worse than Toro Rosso.

Both Williams finished in the points while both B.M.W.s did not, with one going out by engine fire. If you follow F1 enough to know what that means, that's kinda funny.

Speaking of the Willliams, Nico Rosberg, son of former World Champion Keke, looked awesome in his first ever race after getting his nose cut off early in the race. He had the overall fastest race lap...in a car that is not the fastest car.

In his first race for Ferrari, Felipe Massa looked terrible, and almost spun out into eventual winner Alonso early on.

Raikkonen came from last on the grid (22nd this year) to finish third.

1.) Fernando Alonso (Spain) - Renault - 10 points
2.) Michael Schumacher (Germany) - Ferrari - 8 points
3.) Kimi Raikkonen (Finland) - McLaren-Mercedes - 6 points
4.) Jenson Button (England) - Honda - 5 points
5.) Juan Pablo Montoya (Colombia) - McLaren-Mercedes - 4 points
6.) Mark Webber (Australia) - Williams-Cosworth - 3 points
7.) Nico Rosberg (Finland) - Williams-Cosworth - 2 points
8.) Christian Klien (Austria) - Red Bull-Ferrari - 1 point
---------------------
9.) Felipe Massa (Brazil) - Ferrari
10.) David Coulthard (Scotland) - Red Bull-Ferrari
11.) Vitantonio Liuzzi (Italy) - Toro Rosso-Cosworth
12.) Nick Heidfeld (Germany) - B.M.W. Sauber - 1 lap down
13.) Scott Speed (United States) - Toro Rosso-Cosworth
14.) Ralf Schumacher (Germany) - Toyota
15.) Rubens Barrichello (Brazil) - Honda
16.) Jarno Trulli (Italy) - Toyota
17.) Tiago Monteiro (Portugal) - Midland-Toyota - 2 laps down
18.) Takuma Sato (Japan) - Super Aguri-Honda - 4 laps down

retired:

Yuji Ide (Japan) - Super Aguri-Honda
Jacques Villenueve (Canada) - B.M.W. Sauber
Giancarlo Fisichella (Italy) - Renault
Christijan Albers (Netherlands) - Midland-Toyota

cbs has the rights to air 4 or 5 races this year, monaco being the 3rd so far. cbs is doing a same day tape delay on all but the usgp so we couldn't watch the race until 12:30 this afternoon. That being said, the race just ended.

I can't believe mark and kimi blew up that close together. Michael really lucked out today with so many cars ahead of him wrecking/blowing up. Fucking cheater.

^^Alonso is supposedly heading to McLaren next year too.

^Speed has it most of the time. They're much better than the CBS guys. Once Kimi dropped out, Alonso was just in a class of his own. I don't know if Webber would have been able to keep up for the rest of the race before he blew up, but it was good to see that team have a quality run while it lasted. And yeah, I know you mentioned Michael lucking out today, but how about David Coulthard getting the final podium position, as well as Rubens finishing 4th.

I know speed usually carries the races, they have MUCH better coverage. DC did have a great run, but I'm not expecting to see them get more than 1 more podium this year. Rubens, well, he's a pretty good driver getting used to a not so great car. I think it is really showing that STR can't advance the chassis and engine combo like the other teams can. Their drivers are better than their finishing positions are showing.

The Ferrari's are so fast this year, they'll be hard to stop. The McLaren's looked fast to me too but that was just to the naked eye, i didn't have any stats or anything

michael has been fast at some tracks but overall the ferrari hasn't been up there with alonso and the renault. Massa has been much better than fisichella (who probably does have a better car) but they haven't been able to complete all of the races. Mclaren can be fast, not as fast as last year, but still top 3. Problem is they aren't reliable.

Yeah, Speed is much better than CBS. And I think I was letting DieselShirt know about Speed.

I think Ferrari is using strategy to their advantage over speed. I think Michael's win at Imola was strategy based. He knew the best place to run, where Alonso would run, as well as the pit strategy. Alonso used his stuff up by the time the race was over. I think if Alonso would have passed Michael in that race, Alonso would have just pulled away. Whether it was strategy or accident in qualifying this week, it didn't work out for Michael. However, a little luck doesn't hurt.

I'm also wondering about Alonso's decision to go to McLaren. With the engine and mechanical failures that team has had (as well as a loss of some speed), you have to wonder what the future of that team will be.

I've been a big fan of F1 since I was in high school or so, but I didn't get to see the race much in the States because I didn't know when/where the race was aired. Now I am back in Japan, so I get to see all the races on tv.

Schumacher was really lucky, I think. Did you all see the preliminary race? What did you think about Schumacher at the corner? (His machine stopped without being able to turn.) I thought he did it on purpose, so I was kinda relieved when the official decided to put him on the last grid. But also I was surprised that he had to do this to get the pp.

Raikkonen and Webber retired because their machine's wire got damaged and heat-resistant shield burnt up. The same thing happened to Raikkonen on the first day in Monaco, too.

McLaren did a better job last season than this season. This season, its body is fine, but the engine is not. The machine can't come with Raikkonen's racing skill. Well, I don't really have stats to support this, but it is kinda apparent to me and my friends by watching almost all races.

I was really shocked that Alonso announced to join McLaren for 2007 season before 2006 season! Raikkonen hasn't said anything about his transfer to a new team, but most of people think he is going to Ferrari whether or not Schumacher stays next season. I want him to go to a team that can build a machine to bring out his ability.

I don't like Alonso because he's been really arrogant. It is good to be confident but NOT arrogant!!!

I saw that live Saturday morning and immediately thought it was on purpose. He took the wrong line going into the corner, turned in way early, locked up, released the brakes, turned in to get through the corner correctly, THEN straightened out the wheel to go toward the wall, then stopped inches from the wall.

that is great. He would have won the race starting second even, most likely. Is it me, or is Schumacher always in the controversy shit in F1? At least this time it was against him. Montoya is the only one who said it might be a case where it was an accident, but only *might* have been.

Regardless I still have my Mclaren jacket and Kimi diecast cars all over the place.

If anybody goes to the USGP, here is my advice- sit in the infield section (general admission) and not in the grandstands. You can move around and you will see much more action. I sat there during practice and qualifying and on the straight during the race, and it was much better in the grass sections. Of course during practice and qualifying you can sit wherever you want, so you will still see the pit area during the weekend.

The pictures in my gallery were taken when I had a 2mp camera with only 2X optical zoom, so if i go again I will have much better pictures this time.

I think Alonso would still have won the race if Schumacher had started at the second grid because It is difficult to overtake other cars at a tight circuit in Monaco unless he does good job on pit-in strategy.

Some people say car racing is not sports, but it is definitely sports, especially F1! Have you heard drivers breathing while driving? They breathe so heavily on straight and stop breathing at corner to hold heavy Gs from the side.

I have bever been to any F1 race. I wish!!! Next year, Fuji Speedway will have a F1 race, so I hope I will get to see the race. Fuji Speedway is way closer than Suzuka Circuit to me.

^^ it is funny. haha.

dude just look at Alonso's neck muscles. I mean damn. You have to hold your head up against all those g's in a turn! Racing may not be a sport but holy smokes those guys are atheletes. In the Indycar series I know Tony Kannaan is a triathelte. In F1 the only reason why 36 year old Schumacher can still drive so well is only because of his training regimine.

Since we're just off Monaco, thought some here might like this.

As soon as you touch this limit, something happens and you realise that you can suddenly go a little bit further. I don't think he is the greatest waste ever, but he hasn't achieved as much as we expected when he started F1. Everyone has huge expectations in him at first.

Alonso and Raikkonen were not like him. We didn't have such big expectations in them when they came out. In particular, Raikkonen was called 'robot' for a while.
