Nice choice statistics there

Herb's stats vs UNC are similarly abysmal (Especially if you remove the fact that Sendek scored 80% of his UNC wins against Doherty). At least Barnes can take teams deep into the tournament.

Barnes has had one final 4 at Texas, three Sweet 16s.

This is coming from a pretty weak conference, which leads to high seeding and thus easier early games. In addition, Texas has a natural recruiting advantage in the region thanks to all of the money their athletics program brings in.

What he did at Clemson was pretty impressive, but I'd say he has underperformed at UT...

If that's the best you can do to claim Herb is a better coach than Barnes, give up now.

I'm not. Texas started off the season very weak, not playing much defense. I don't hold the Duke margin against Barnes, because they've gotten consistently better since then--as seen by the win over Nova at home.

However, I still feel like Barnes' overall record at Texas is not indicative of greatness. He's a good coach, yeah, but I don't think he's shown any indication of being "great" at this point.

On that same note, using Barnes record vs UNC doesn't prove a damn thing...and if you want to compare records lets go for it becuase Barnes has had much more success, much quicker and at least has his program on a national scene in half the time Herb has.

This isn't about thinking Barnes is better than Herb (which he is), it's about the dumbass logic and stupid bullshit spewed by certain psychotic "Herb is an angel and the best coach ever" crowd that plagues these boards. They are too busy blowing rays of sunshine up Herb's ass to think logically.

I could give a damn.

I'm laughing at Herb apologists logic.

Barnes has accomplished a shitload more than Herb Sendek. This has nothing to do with my feelings towards Herb.

So who actually thinks Rick Barnes would come here?

Dave Odom has always wanted to coach at NC State, but I don't see him taking a pay cut to come here.

^^^yeah i figured, i'm just posting consistent to typical TWW mindset

and its not like I'm like OMG HERB IS THE BEST COACH EVER

but some people just want him gone without thinking more than 5 seconds about:

a. what happens when he's gone to our system/players
b. who do we get to replace him that would come here
c. would we even be as good as we are now

everybody wants to shoot first and ask questions last

^^you're ignoring STATISTICS in place of RANDOM OBSCENITIES...you've said nothing with substance in this whole thread, you are the fucking idiot, as everyone already knows...herb haters and herb lovers alike know that you are a retard

you are right, but i don't think that rick barnes was left with so little to work with as sendek was. i think people sometimes forget (im not saying you, just in general) what the state of the program was when herb took over.

if message boards had been as popular as they are today then most people would have been saying if herb could just win 5 acc games i would be happy

Right.... he just took Clemson to a top 5 ranking in 3 years.... not to mention that the ACC was much much much stronger that year (With 5 different teams being ranked top 5 in the country that year, Clemson, Wake, Maryland, UNC, and Duke)

See, this lovely statement(made in all caps so we can see he's really really serious), is what the big difference between Herb's supporters and "haters" is. Herb's supporters see making the tournament as a goal of the season, whereas those who would do away with Herb would like us to be able to have the goal of winning the tournament being the goal of the season, with the tournament itself just being another(albeit far more exciting) part of the season.

"THE GOAL OF A BASKETBALL SEASON IS TO MAKE THE NCAA TOURNAMENT" is a very excellent all-caps statement for a Hofstra fan to make. For an NC State fan, maybe a goal of winning the whole thing(knowing full well that even when we just might do it, we just might not) should be examined.

Just throwing that out there.

I understand that completely. I do. I loved Herb as recently as 3 or 4 years ago.

I give Herb all the credit in the world from getting us where we were when I was a freshman(and even before then, but I was paying less attention then) to where we are now. I honestly think we've gone as far under this system as we're ever going to. We might sqeak into the sweet 16 sometime again in the next couple of years(not this year, though), but if we're looking to improve upon our spot rather than hover, it's time for some changes.

and apparently state fans dont give a shit if we go 30-3 if 2 of the losses are to carolina

^if you want a chance to win the tournament every year, become a Duke or UConn fan, cause those are the only programs that have a chance

or maybe you dont think MAKING the tournament is a prereq of winning it in the first place

For starters. 3 Sweet 16's and a Final Four in 6 years.... took 3 different programs to top 10 rankings (Clemson and Texas to top 5).
